L ying requires that the untruthful statement be made to another person L ying requires that the person intend that that other person believe the untruthful statement to be true http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/lying-definition/ Traditional Definition of Lying

If lying by a Doctor instills hope and mental strength in a patient -- and this, in turn, makes the patient more likely to get well – does lying makes sense? Is Lying ever Justified? If a Jihadist asks are you a Muslim and you answer YES even though you are not in order to save your life. Is that justifies? Researchers such as UCLA psychologist Shelley Taylor, Ph.D ., states that there is evidence that A certain amount of self-delusion--basically, lying to yourself--is essential to good mental health . “The greater the good intended, the more is the sin of lying diminished in gravity Every lie is a sin but if the end intended be not contrary to love , neither will the lie be a mortal sin, as in the case of a jocose lie, where some little pleasure is intended, or in an officious lie, where the good also of ones neighbor is intended .” St . Thomas Aquinas “We will always be liars, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t always ask ourselves when it is acceptable to lie and when it isn’t” Dallas G. Denary II

A survey of residents at 31 senior citizen centers in Los Angeles recently revealed that only about 50% of elderly Korean Americans believe that patients diagnosed with life-threatening metastatic cancer should be told the truth about their condition. In contrast, nearly 90% of Americans of European or African descent felt that the terminally ill should be confronted with the truth. Cultural Differences Gender Differences Women are especially likely to stretch the truth in order to protect someone else's feelings Men , on the other hand, are more prone to lying about themselves - the typical conversation between two guys contains about eight times as many self-oriented lies as it does falsehoods about other people < DePaulo >

A lie always damages the person who tells lies by destroying your sense of integrity. They sow doubt and suspicion in social relations Every lie diminishes trust , undermining faith in the liar, Lying destroys Relationships Consequences of Lying The society as a whole would falter and collapse as its members do not trust each other any more. Bella DePaulo http://www.slideshare.net/ParveenKumarChadha/the-real-truth-about-lies Trust in veracity is a foundation of the relations among human being – when shattered, INSTITUTIONS COLLAPS Sissela Bock, The Principle of Veracity Studies reveal that each and every one of us lies but today lying has reached epidemic proportions threatening the very foundations of society, corroding our civil discourse, warping our politics.
