STEP 1 Begin with a piece of square paper. You can use origami paper or fold any piece of paper diagonally from the corner to the opposite edge and trim off the excess.
STEP 2 Fold the paper in half. Crease the fold with your finger. Open the piece of paper.
STEP 3 Fold the paper in half in the other direction. Use your finger to crease the fold, then open the paper again. You should now have two creases that intersect at the center of the square
STEP 4 Fold corners to the center. Bring each one to the center, so that the points are all touching. Crease the folds with your finger. Rotate the paper so it sits squarely in front of you, but don't unfold it this time
STEP 5 Fold the top and bottom edges to the center of the paper. Crease the edges with your finger, then unfold them. The triangles should still be in place.
STEP 6 Unfold the top and bottom triangles. Leave the side triangles folded in.
STEP 7 Fold the long edges to the center. You should have what looks like a necktie with two points.
STEP 8 Lift one end to stand it up at the crease. In other words, look for the crease an inch or so in from the bottom of one of the triangle tips. Lift the paper there and reinforce the crease so that it stands up. Let's call this uplifted part the "head" of the box.
STEP 9 Open the left side of the box. Hold the head of the box with one hand while you open the folded edge to its left. This is now a "wall" of the box. Fold in the end of the wall so that it fits snugly against the head of the box, creating a tight corner.
STEP 10 Open the right side of the box. Hold the head of the box with one hand and open the right folded edge this time. This is a new wall of the box. Fold in the end of the wall so that it fits snugly against the head of the box, creating another corner.
STEP 11 Lift the opposite pointed end. The other pointed end will become the wall opposite the head of the box. Let's call this the "foot" of the box.
STEP 12 Create two corners against the foot of the box. Fold in the ends of the right and left walls against the foot of the box to create the two final corners.
STEP 13 Fold the flaps into the box. Triangular flaps at the head and foot of the box should be folded into the bottom of the box, with creases against the sides to keep them in place.
