Sankalp (Vow)
English Translation
By the command of the Supreme Lord
Vishnu, in this time that is proceeding -
today, in the second half (Parardha) of
Brahma's life, in the Shweta Varaha Kalpa,
in the Vaivasvata Manvantara, on the
earthly plane (Bhuloka), in Jambudvipa
(the continent), in Bharatavarsha (India),
in Bharata Khanda, within the Aryavarta
region, in [specific] place, in [specific]
Vikrama year, in [specific] year-name, in
[specific] month (the best of months), in
[specific] fortnight, on [specific] lunar day,
on [specific] weekday, born of [specific]
lineage, I [specific name] -
For establishing good tendencies, for
eliminating bad tendencies, for the
welfare of society, for my own spiritual
welfare, for purifying the environment,
for creating a bright future-I make this
solemn vow/resolution (Sankalpa).

Sankalp (Vow)
Understanding of second half (Parardha)
of Brahma's life,
In Hindu philosophy, Lord Brahma(the
Creator) has a lifespan—not in human
years, but in cosmic years.
•One day of Brahma (called a Kalpa)=
4.32 billion human years
•One night of Brahma= 4.32 billion
human years
•So, one full day-night of Brahma=
8.64 billion years.
•One year of Brahma= 360 such days
and nights.
•Brahma lives for 100 such years—
that’s 311 trillion and 40 billion
human yearstotal.
•Think of Brahma’s life as a 100-year
lifespan. The first 50 years= first
Parardha (many universes created and
dissolved). After that, a new cosmic
phase begins—the second Parardha.
•The shift into the second Parardha
represents renewal, re-creation, and a
higher order of evolution.

Sankalp (Vow)
Understanding of Shweta VarahaKalpa,
A Kalpais one day in the life of Lord
Brahma.One Kalpa= 4.32 billion human
years. Lord Vishnu incarnated as the
White Boar (Shweta Varaha)to rescue
the Earth (Bhudevi), which had sunk into
the cosmic ocean. He lifted the Earth out
of the waters with His tusks and restored
creation. This event marks the beginning
of the current Kalpawe are living in.
Understanding of VaivasvataManvantara
A Manvantara is a time periodwithin a
Kalpa (a day of Brahma).
Each Kalpa (Brahma’s day) is divided into
14 Manvantaras.
One Manvantaralasts for 71 Mahayugas
(each Mahayuga = 4.32 million years, so
one Manvantara ≈ 306.72 million human
years).
The current Manuof our times is
Vaivasvata Manu—
the 7thManu out of the 14total. So, we
are now living in the Vaivasvata
Manvantara, which began after a great
flood described in many scriptures.

POV of Gurudeva Pandit Shriram Sharma:
Sankalpais not just a prayer -it's a
written contract with the Universe and
with yourself. Here's why it's powerful:
1. Declaring Your Position in Time and
Space:The Sankalpa precisely identifies:
Where you are (geographically and
cosmically)
Whenyou are (in the grand cosmic
calendar)
Who you are (your identity and lineage)
Why?Because when you know exactly
where you stand, you can chart where you
want to go. It's like entering your current
location in GPS before setting a
destination.
The Six Sacred Goals:Notice the six
purposes mentioned:
1.Sad-vritti (Good habits)-Building positive
character
2.Eliminating bad tendencies-Removing
negativity
3.Lok-kalyana (Social welfare)-Serving
others
4.Atma-kalyana (Self-development)-
Personal growth
5.Environmental purification-Ecological
responsibility
6.Bright future-Legacy building

Why?These aren't random goals -they
represent holistic development: personal,
social, and environmental.
Making it Official with Divine Witnesses:
You invoke deities (divine powers) as
witnesses. This is like:
Signing a legal document in front of
witnesses & Notary
Making a public declaration
Creating accountability
Why?When you declare your intentions
formally, you activate your subconscious
mind and create psychological
commitment.
Conclusive Teaching:
"What is written becomes real. What is
spoken in sacred ceremony becomes
your destiny."
He believed that the act of formally
declaring your goals:
Programs your subconscious mind
Creates divine support(activates
universal energies)
Makes you accountable(to yourself and
higher powers)
Crystallizes vague wishes into concrete
intentions

Company:Amazon What they did:Jeff
Bezos wrote the "Day 1" philosophy and
posted it in every conference room. He
wrote annual shareholder letters declaring
Amazon's mission and goals.
Result:Clear written goals kept the
company focused through 25+ years of
growth.
Vedic Connection:Just like Sankalpa
declares intentions before witnesses,
successful businesses write mission
statements and share them publicly.
Real-World Examples & Modern
Success Principles:
Jim Carrey
What he did:In 1987, he wrote himself a
check for $10 million for "acting services
rendered" and dated it for Thanksgiving
1995. He kept it in his wallet.
Result:In 1994, he learned he would earn
exactly $10 million for "Dumb and
Dumber."
Vedic Connection:Written goals with
specific details (like Sankalpa's precise
dating and location) create powerful
manifestation.

Social Change
Movement:Indian Independence
What they did:The "Quit India" resolution
was formally written, dated, and declared
publicly on August 8, 1942.
Result:Clear written goal with timeline
created focused national movement.
Vedic Connection:Public declaration with
witnesses (Lok-kalyana -social welfare)
creates collective energy.
Scientific Research
Study:Dominican University of California
(Dr. Gail Matthews, 2015) Findings:
People who:
Wrote their goals = 42% more likely to
achieve them
Shared goals with a friend = 78% more
likely to achieve them
Had weekly progress reports = Even
higher success rates
Vedic Connection:This validates the
5000-year-old Sankalpa tradition:
•Write it down (like the Sankalpa text)
•Declare it to witnesses (like invoking
deities)
•Regular review (like daily prayers)

Psychological Science Meets Ancient Wisdom
Why Written Oaths/Goals Work
1.Reticular Activating System (RAS):Writing
goals activates your brain's filter to notice
opportunities
2.Accountability:Public declaration creates
social pressure (positive)
3.Clarity:Specific written goals remove
ambiguity
4.Commitment:Physical act of writing
increases dedication
5.Review:Written goals can be revisited and
measured
