The purpose of this laboratory experiment is to obtain the ability to distinguish whether a compound is either an alkane or an alkene. A variety of tests were performed in order to be able to differentiate

1. Thin layer safety Please do not walk around with sample jar

2. Please do not let the solvent front sit too long!!

3. You will have the wrong Rf value

4. Please only tap the capillary on the plate

5. Please use the correct side of the plate

6. The instructors will do the UV analysis
