THEATER ARTS Music in Traditional Theater, Dance, and Festivals in Southeast Asia Southeast Asia's diverse cultures are reflected in its rich musical traditions, which play essential roles in traditional theater, dance, and festivals. Music in the region is both artistic and ceremonial, often tied to religious practices and oral storytelling.

TRADITIONAL DANCE ❖Philippines ✔ Maglalatik -a folk dances that imitates a duel between two groups in conflict.This stimulation is performed during town festivals and involves the use of a “ latik ” or coconut shell worn around the waist by each dancer. ❖Singapore ✔Traditional dance in Singapore have their roots in popular forms of Chinese,Malay , and Indian dances. And also include the seductive joget , asli , and zapin.the revered and popular traditional in India bharatanatyam,bhangra . The four basic genres of Malay dances are asli,inang joget , and zapin . Asli and inang dances are classified as “adopted” Malay dances.

Here are common types of folk arts in the Philippines ❖Embroidery is a a technique in which a needle is used to create a decorative pattern on fabric. The motifs are traditionally expressed in threads and composed of different types of stitches. 1.Abra - the “ Itneg or Tingunian people in Abra are known for their weaving techniques called “ kinamay ”. 3.T’bolls in Lake Sebu - are traditionally known for their t’nalak , a three-color abaca cloth that comes in deep maroon,black or brown,and white. 2.Lumban, Laguna- the craftsmen of Lumban,Laguna are well known for their production of finely crafted and embroidered barongs.The artisand in Lumban are known for their “ calado ” embroidery technique.
