THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES, PROCESSES AND CYCLES ANKITA SHARMA 17MSE002 1

Property of the system Property change → change of state→path of change of state → when the path is specified, the change of state is called a process. What is thermodynamic cycle? Types of properties: Intensive Extensive 2

Thermodynamic Equilibrium Mechanical equilibrium-There are no unbalance force within the system . The pressure in the system remain same at all points and does not change with respect to time. Chemical equilibrium- No chemical reaction takes place in the system and the chemical composition which is same throughout the system does not vary with time. Thermal equilibrium- The temperature of the system does not change with respect to time and has same value at all points of the system. 3

QUASI-STATIC PROCESS 4

Fig shows transition between two equilibrium states by an unbalanced force. 5

Infinitely slow transition of a system by infinitesimal force 6

Quasi static process 7
