Introduction Writing a thesis is a long process that requires organization. Microsoft word has many features that help format and manage a thesis easily. This presentation will cover useful tools in WORD for thesis writing. 3
Creating a New Document Open Microsoft Word and select Blank Document. Select the A4 page size and margins ( layout > margins ). Save the document regularly ( ctrl + s ). 4
Setting up Page Layout Use 1-inch margins or as per university guidelines Choose a professional font ( Times new roman , Arial , Calibri ) Set line Spacing ( 1.5 or double ) in Home > Paragraph 5
Inserting Table of Contents Place cursor where you want the table of contents. Go to references > Table of Content and select a style Update it automatically when changes are made ( Right click > Update Field ). 6
Adding Page Numbers and Headers Go to insert > Page Number and choose positions ( Top or Bottom ). For different numbering in sections, use section breaks ( Layout > Breaks ). Insert Headers and Footer for chapter names or other details. 7
Managing Citations and References Go to References > Manage sources to add citations. Use insert Citation to reference in-text. Generate a bibliography automatically. Go to References > insert Footnote for additional details. Use Endnote fir reference in the end of the document. 8
Inserting Figures and Tables Use Insert > Tables to create table. Add images using Insert > Pictures. Label tables and figures using References > Insert Caption. 9
Reviewing and Proofreading Tools Use Review > Spelling & Grammar to check mistakes. Track changes helps to review edits. Use Find & Replace ( Ctrl + H ) to modify specific words. 10
Saving and Exporting the Thesis Save regularly in .docx format. Export to pdf using File > Save as > PDF. Keep multiple Backups . 11
