INTRODUCTION OF AMINO ACID Amino acid are compounds containing amino group (-NH 2 ) and carboxyl group (COOH). So, amino acid are also called amino carboxylic acid. Amino acid are the essential component of all living cells. Amino acid are building blocks of protein. 20 amino acids are used as building blocks for the protein synthesis.
STRUCTURE OF AMINO ACID An amino acid is made up of 5 component namely:- A carbon atom- C A hydrogen atom- H An amino group- NH 2 A carboxyl group- COOH A side chain or residue- R
CLASSIFICATION OF AMINO ACID The amino acid can be classified by R group, they are 5 main classes- Non polar aliphatic R groups. Aromatic R groups. Polar uncharged R group. Positively charged R group. Negatively charged R group.
WHAT IS TITRATION CURVE? Titration is the analytical method used to determine the amount of acid in a solution. A measured volume of the acid solution is titrated by slowly adding a solution of base. Titration curves are obtained when the pH of given volume of a sample solution varies after successive addition of acid or alkali .
AMINO ACID ACT AS ACID AND BASE ZWITTER-ION :- zwitterions is a dipolar ion containing positive and negative charge .
TITRATION CURVE OF LYSINE
TITRATION CURVE OF ASPARTATE
TITRATION CURVE OF GLUTAMATE
TITRATION CURVE OF ALANINE
Conclusions:- Determine the titration curve for an amino acid and to use this curve to estimate the pKa value of ionizable groups of the amino acid and to understand the acid-base behavior of amino acid.
