Opened new door, for the beginning of new era under the supervision of Prof Dr.
Zia ul Haq, VC Khyber Medical University and Dr. Brekhna Jamil Director IH¬PE&R
the Central Curriculum & Assessment Committe has been formulated. This is first
step taken to change the dynamics of Allied Health Sciences and Nursing Education
in Pakistan. Committee by using a craft man approach has developed study guide
which will provide pathways for other to follow and KMU will pre-serve the leader-
ship in providing quality education across Pakis9tan and will be a reference point of
quality in future. Committe has developed curricula to promote inter-professional
learning, enhancing and improving the quality of life for people by discovering,
teaching and applying knowledge related to Nursing, rehabilitation Sciences & Al-
lied Health sciences.

INTRODUCTION
The B.S (Generic) Nursing Programme aspires to prepare nurses in a multidis¬-
ciplinary environment enabling them to work in an ever changing complex health
care delivery system and to attain their true potentials in becoming competent, car-
ing, and inquisitive members of the health care teams for improving the health
status of individuals, families and the society at large.
B.S Nursing is a 4-years programme that prepares graduates to provide safe,
competent and compassionate nursing care grounded in theory and professional
standards. The curriculum is based on the concepts of relational practice, lead¬er-
ship, critical nursing inquiry and ethics of care. The curriculum further gives an op-
portunity to the students to acquire a good deal of experience to work at vari¬ous
levels of health organizations including basic health units, rural health centers, com-
munity clinics, specialized and tertiary health care settings.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of this program, students should be able to:
1. Develop nursing graduates skilled with progressive theoretical as well as
practical knowledge and skills.
2. Educate nurses working with different capacities and various roles in
health care institutions/organizations.
3. Train nurses for giving care with leadership, management, problem solv-
ing and decision making skills.
4. Integrate logics and reasoning in complex situations or settings while
providing holistic care to patients.
5. Prepare nurses with analytical, critical thinking and research skills to pro-
mote evidenced based care.

Course Description
This course introduces the learners to the concepts of mental health and men-
tal illness, the various concepts of psychiatric nursing and its development in gener-
al and in Pakistan in particular. It further develops understanding of holistic approach
to mental health nursing by applying the nursing process for patients and families
in hospital settings. The course is also intended to explore personal and cultural
perceptions, values, and beliefs about mental health problems and the need and
relevance of community mental health care in Pakistan.

By the end of this subject, students should be able to:
1. Describe the nursing process as applied to mental health nursing
2. Utilize knowledge base to actively participate in therapeutic milieu for
clients with mental health problems
3. Explore factors affecting mental health especially in the Pakistani culture.
4. Identify need and relevance of community mental health in Pakistan and
the resources available to manage it.

Course Description
This course provides the learners preamble knowledge to basic statistical prin-
ciples and their application to qualitative and quantitative research studies in health
sciences. It is aimed to develop understanding of rules governing use of descriptive
and inferential statistics to enhance learners’ knowledge and skills to analyze, syn-
thesize, infer and present given data.

rse DesThis course introduces learners to the academic writing skills specifically
in the field of nursing. The focus would be to establish the competencies and skills
of students in order to learn the essentials required for scholarly and academic
writing. The course further intends to enable the students for incident report
writing in their learning practices. The course also promotes the proof reading,
editing abilities, reference and citations skills among the learners in their academic
writings and activities.
Cognitive Domain
By the end of this subject, students should be able to:
1. Improve their academic writing skills with special focus on language
used in comparison and contrast, and cause and effect.
2. Enhance the learners’ language skills to be able to detect problems, de-
termine their causes and resolve the issues while writing incident reports.
3. Edit the drafts into its final craft, documents and papers.
4. Develop the proof reading skills for corrections and knowing the actual
essence of the texts.
5. Utilize the technical information regarding referencing and citations in

This course introduces learners to human interaction and its impact on indi-
vidual and group behavior. It also introduces learners to the field of socio-cultural
anthropology. It focuses on the exploration of values, beliefs and practices related
to health and illness in general and among specific groups of people in Pakistan.
The focus is on analysis of the inter relatedness of culture, society and health care
delivery in Pakistan. The course promotes the exploration of trans-cultural nursing
concepts, which will be promoted in the clinical setting.
