TNA Objectives

Objectives Identify training needs through data gathering methodologies, instruments and analytical tools. Create a Capacity Development Plan for Local Tourism Office Serves as a guide in addressing priority issues and concerns regarding performance, competency and continual improvement Acts as a reference to determine cost effective improvement methodology for employees

Competencies in Tourism The competencies of managers in managing and marketing tourism destinations give competitive advantage to successful tourism destinations. The source of competitive advantage for all organizations is competency. The development and success of tourism and hospitality destinations is attributed in giving importance of a skilled workforce

What competencies are aligned with the existing policies are required of Tourism Officer?

TO Roles according to Tourism Act 2009 Based from Tourism Act 2009, the tourism officer shall be responsible for the following functions at the local level: (1) Prepare, implement, coordinate, monitor and update local tourism development plans; (2) Ensure the proper enforcement of tourism standards, laws, rules and Regulations; (3) Submit regular reports on status of tourism plans and programs, tourist arrivals, employment, occupancy rates, investment and tourist products, among others, to the Department; and, (4) Coordinate with the Department and its attached agencies and corporations in regard to the development and promotion of tourism in their locality. The Department of Tourism may issue appropriate guidelines to prescribe other relevant qualifications that will guide the LGU in the selection and placement of tourism personnel in their locality.”

TO Role according to RA 7160 The following are the Duties and Powers of Tourism Officer from RA 7160 Article 21 Section 491: (1.a) Formulate and recommend protection and preservation of tourist destinations, and in carrying tour activities to ensure the delivery of basic services and (1.b) provision of adequate facilities related to tourism; (2) Conduct tourism campaigns and information drive for the promotion of tourist destinations in the city, municipality or province as a tourist destination; (3) Identify and develop potential areas as tourist destinations, and evaluate its possible economic, environmental, and social impacts to the local government units; and, (4) Promote people participation in development planning within the local government unit concerned.
