Truck Driver Responsibilities Security Badges Other Procedures Speed limits and traffic signs Dock Safety Secure Loads

Badges You Must obtain a truck driver badge before entering the property.

Be aware of your surroundings Not watching where you are going is a serious safety concern. You could drive into another vehicle, the building or a pedestrian.

Dock Operating Sequences What you need to know when backing into a dock

Trailer doors Before backing into a dock assure that trailer doors are open and secured.

Inspect Assure trailer is square with building after contacting dock.

Brakes Assure brakes are set.

Chock Wheels All chocks are required to be provided by the trucking company. Only SAE-J348 approved chocks are allowed to be used on site. Do not use loose boards or other discarded material as wheel chocks.

Results of not using chocks Trailer creep occurs when the lateral and vertical forces exerted each time a lift truck enters and exits the trailer causing the trailer to slowly move away from the dock resulting in separation from the dock leveler. Separation from the dock also occurs when a driver prematurely pulls away while the trailer is still being loaded/unloaded.

Leaving Before Work Is Complete

Restraints Check to see if restraints are connected properly with ICC bar.

Dock Door Controls Only on-site Material Handlers are allowed to operate dock door controls with levelers and restraints.

Removing Locks Truck Drivers are responsible for removing straps and load locks from loads.

Automated Docks Only Trained Truck Drivers are allowed to operate automated unloading trailers controls.

Leaving the site The Dock Material Handler will notify driver when trailer is emptied and released.

Leaving the site If you leave the dock without verifying… Accidents can happen

Leaving the site Truck Driver verifies that their load is secured and locked.

Leaving the site Check dock signal lights: Green means “GO” Red means “STOP” (restraints have not released).

Leaving the site Verify load is secured and locked

Secure the Load If you do not secure your load in the trailer, parts can roll out the rear of the truck

Leaving the site Remove all chocks from wheels

Leaving the site Verify that the trailer doors are closed and secured before leaving the dock area.

Leaving the site Proceed to Security for processing. Once you have reached Security: Exit the vehicle and open rear trailer doors for Security checks.

Remember All site rules and procedures must be followed You must wear your truck driver badges at all times Do not wonder around the facility while your cargo is being loaded or unloaded All loads must be secure while you are moving and doors must be closed
