SEARCH ENGINE Definition:- A program that searches for and identifies items in a database that correspond to keywords or characters specified by the user, used especially for finding particular sites on the World Wide Web . The first tool for searching content on internet was Archie . In 1990 by Alan Emtage, Bill Heelan and J. Peter Deutsch,

3. A search engine is a computer program that does the following: Allows user to submit a query that consists of a word / phrase. Searches the database Returns a list of suitable URLs which match your query. Allows user to revise and resubmit. The search results are generally presented in a line of results often referred to as  search engine results pages  (SERPs)

THREE PARTS OF SEARCH ENGINE 1.SPIDER OR WEB CRAWLER :- "when the search engines spider your site they'll find all of the pages" 2.INDEX:- A database index is a data structure that improves the speed of data retrieval operations and index all the data search by search engine.  3.SEARCH ENGINE SOFTWARE : Technology that enables users to query the index and that returns results in a schematic order.

6. GENERAL OR SPECIFIC SEARCH ENGINE   General and specific search engine uses spider to collect its information from their own searchable index. Specific search engine having specific subject. Although general search Engine is not having any subject it searches all type of information .

7. This search engine has been around for many years and is one of the most widely used. The  most widely used search engine. GENERAL SEARCH ENGINES:- : Microsoft’s latest attempt  at a search engine.        

8. Science.gov : Search multiple science-oriented government web sites.  Covers most science areas . Social Sciences Artcyclopedia Search for fine art information.  Search artists, work titles, or by museum names/locations . Disadvantages:- Information is overloaded Privacy and security is concern Makes everyone to depended Cannot index the entire web Advantages:- Enable to quick search to vast amount information from o ne search box.
