Types of Menstrual Disorders
•Menstrual disorder is a term that occur within a woman’s menstrual
cycle. These include
1.Amenorrhea
2.Dysmenorrhea
3.Oligo menorrhea
4.Menorrhagia
5.Premenstrual syndrome

•The process in a woman of discharging blood and other material from
the lining of the uterus at intervals of about one lunar month from
puberty until the menopause, except during pregnancy.
•Menstrual Cycle
•Menstruation Phase
•Follicular phase
•Ovulation Phase
•Luteal Phase
Normal Menstrual Cycle (Menses)

Amenorrhea
•Primary :is a failure of mensesto occur by either:
•Age 16or 2 years after onset of puberty.
•Age 14 in girls who have not undergone puberty.
•Puberty meansBreast development and pubic hair growth So,
•If by age 13 menses has not occurred and there is no onset of puberty
then primary amenorrhea occur.

Cause of primary (ovulatory) Amenorrhea

Secondary Amenorrhea
•Cessation of menses after they have begun.
Cause of secondary (ovulatory) Amenorrhea
•Natural causes: pregnancy
•Medications and therapies: Contraception
•Antidepressants, Chemotherapy
•Gynecological causes: PSOS
•Premature Ovarian Failure

Diagnosis of Amenorrhea
•How old patient was at menarche (the 1
st
occurrence of
menstruation),
•Physical examination
•Measure FSH,
•LH,
•Testosterone/DHEAS,
•Prolactin & Karyotype of the patient.

Dysmenorrhea
(Painful period, Menstrual Cramps)
•Dysmenorrhea,also known as painful periods ormenstrual
cramps.
•Its usual onset occurs around the time that menstruation begins.
•Symptoms typically last less than 3days.
•The pain is usually in the pelvis or lower abdomen.

Types of dysmenorrhea
•Primary dysmenorrheaoccurs in people who experience pain before
and during menstruation.
•If you've had normal periods that become painful later in life, it may
be Secondarydysmenorrhea. A condition affecting the uterus or
other pelvic organs, such as endometriosis or uterine fibroids,
cancausethis.

Cause of Dysmenorrhea
•Uterine fibroids
•Endometriosis
•PID(Pelvic inflammatory disease)
•Adenomyosis
•Symptoms:Pain during menstruation, diarrhea, ...
•Usual onset:Within a year of the first menstrual

•Oligo menorrheais a condition in which you have infrequent
menstrual periods.
•It occurs in women of childbearing age.
•Some variation in menstruation is normal, but a woman who regularly
goes more than 35 days without menstruating may be diagnosed
witholigo menorrhea.
•Periods usually occur every 21 to 35 days
Oligo menorrhea

•Causes:
•Hormone birth control side effect.
•Heavy exercise.
•Diabetes
•Height blood prolactin
•Eating disorder.
Cause of Oligo menorrhea

Menorrhagia (Heavy Bleeding)
•Excessive or menstrual blood loss depend on quality of life, hormonal
response or emotional factor.
•Menstrual bleeding lasting for longer than 7 days.
•About 1 in every 20 women hasmenorrhagia.
•Some of the bleeding can be very heavy,
meaning you would
change your tampon or pad
after less than 2 hours.

Premenstrual syndrome
PMDD(Premenstrualdysphoric disorder)
•Premenstrual syndrome(PMS) is a condition that affects a woman's
emotions, physical health, and behavior during certain days of
themenstrualcycle,
•Generally just before her menses.
•PMSis a very common condition.
