Types of radiations:
Radiations are of 2 types:-
1)Ionizing radiations
2)Non ionizing radiations
Gamma rays
X rays
Alpha particles
Protons
Beta particles (electrons)
Visible light
Infra red radiation
Microwave radiation
Radio frequency radiation
Ionising
Corpuscular
Ultraviolet radiation
Radiation
Non ionising
Electromagnetic
Non-ionizing radiations:
•Electro magnetic radiations having wavelength
longer than those of ionizing radiations.
•These do not penetrate the body tissues but
absorbed by the superficial tissues (skin, eyes)
•These include-U.V radiations,
visible light,
infra-red radiations,
micro-wave radiations.
Ultraviolet radiation
Sources-
•Natural: Sun (max abs by the ozone of atmosphere)
•Artificial: mercury vapor tubes, carbon arc, electric
welding, etc.
Hazards-
•Natural sources-more effects on skin
•Artificial sources-more effects on eyes
