Introduction: A competition is involving many competitions in a single sports or game is called tournaments. A tournaments is a series of game or matches that are used to decide the winner a competition.

Types of tournaments: Knock out tournaments. Combination tournaments. Challenge tournaments. Combination tournaments.

knockout tournaments: In this tournaments only the victorious team is allowed to play further matches until one team emerge as winner. .

Single knock or single elimination. Consolation 1 st and 2 nd type tournaments. Double knockout. Bagnall wild knockout. Knockout tournaments are divided into 4 parts:

Procedure to knockout fixture: Number of matches to be played in a knockout tournament is always one less than the number of teams. First we have to determine the number of teams in upper half and lower half. In case of even numbers of team ( team in upper half and lower half for 12 teams) Teams in upper half= n/2 = 12/2 = 6

CONT’D IN CASE OF ODD NUMBER OF TEAM (FOR 13 TEAMS) TEAMS IN UPPER HALF = N+1/2 =13+1/2 = 7 TEAMS IN LOWER HALF = N-1/2 = 13-1/2 = 6

ALLOTMENT OF BYES TO TEAM: FIRST BYE WILL BE GIVEN TO LAST TEAM OF LOWER HALF, SECOND BYE WILL BE GIVEN TO FIRST TEAM OF UPPER HALF, THIRD BYE WILL BE GIVEN TO LAST TEAM OF FIRST HALF AND FOURTH BYE WILL BE GIVEN TO FIRST TEAM OF LOWER HALF. AFTER THAT SAME PATTERN WILL BE FOLLWED.

Advantages of tournaments: less expensive. Less time needed. Less tiredness to players .

DIS Advantages of tournaments: High stress of player. Good team may eliminated. Selection of players is difficult.
