Faith 1951-1952 Resolution on “STREAMLINING AND STRENGTHENING THE CHURCH ORGANIZATION AND ON THE CHURCH WILLINGNESS TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CHRISTIAN PROGRAM IN THE PHILIPPINES” This is in preparation for the assumption of Filipino leadership in the UCCP A STATEMENT OF SOCIAL CONCERN 1960 The Church and Economic Development; Population trends; Modern Technology; a call for Agricultural development in the face of Industrialization and Urbanization; Increasing unemployment because of people flocking to the cities for work; Trade Union and Management Relation; Calling the faithful in the face of industrialization, industrial technological advancement and in a commercialized society to: “live out their Christian calling responsibly in the political, social and economic realms of daily life. We declare that the Lord is also the lord of the Factory, the Farm and the Office.”

STATEMENT OF SOCIAL CONCERN 1970 A statement that reiterated most of issues in the 1960 statement, issues on: economic development, population trends, modern technology, agricultural development, industrialization and rapid social change, urbanization, unemployment, trade union and management relation and the responsibility of the laity in their respective fields of vocations. However the statement moved further “in expressing its ‘accord with the student population in demanding for just reforms’” and declared “We unconditionally give our backing for their demands…” Faith STATEMENT ON EVANGELISM 1971 …calls every member “to be deeply involved in the ongoing social process of needed changes in our society and nation, that man become fully human and that our nation share in the humanization of all mankind.”

STATEMENT ON MARTIAL LAW AND EXPRESSION OF CONCERN ON RELATED ISSUES 1974 …expressing concern of the rapid growth of multinational corporations, of freedom of speech and arrests, maltreatment and continued detention even without charges made by the military. STATEMENT ON CULTURAL COMMUNITIES AFFAIRS 1975 Call for the Church to take a firm stand in its justice for all people including that of the cultural communities; encourage dialogue with cultural communities; enter into a long-term program of development, with the end in view of liberating and enabling people and communities in securing lands thus helping them in their struggle for development as a people of God; take an active stand against forces of under-development especially among the cultural communities.” Faith STATEMENT ON CHURCH AND DEVELOPMENT 1978 …the statement recommended the adoption of those documents as basic guidelines in the quest for solutions of social problems…the Church should take a more unified direction in pursuing programs and projects for human empowerment and development…

A RESOLUTION ON THE RESTORATION OF CIVIL, POLITICAL LIBERTIES AND THE DISMANTLING OF THE MACHINERY OF MARTIAL LAW 1978 the Church resolved to be against the perpetuation of the one-man rule and calls for the immediate restoration of all the civil and political liberties of the citizen and dismantling the machinery of Martial Law. Faith RESOLUTION FOR THE CREATION OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS DESK 1978

PEACEMAKING: OUR MINISTRY 1986 In This statement our Church declared that: Genuine peace comes when justice is served. For as long as peasants remain landless, For as long as laborers do not receive just wages, For as long as we are politically and economically dominated by foreign nations, For as long as we channel more money to the military than to basic social services, For as long as the causes of social unrest remain untouched, There will be no peace. Faith The statement further declared that peacemaking is an imperative of the faith we profess. Thus call on the faithful to identify threats of peace and human dignity and join hands with peoples of the world in the common quest for peace based on justice following our great example: Jesus Christ, the prince of peace.

Statements issued later by the Church were results of our engagement and active participation in the struggle of the people. In 1986 our Church drafted our Statement of Faith. Behind this Statement is a theology that emerged from our Church’s opposition to Martial Law and the Marcos dictatorship. It summarizes into a faith statement our concern for human Rights/dignity, justice, peace and integrity of God’s creation. The statement of faith up to now continues to provide the perspective to the theology behind our concern for these issues among us. Our Statement of Faith is an interpretative account of the faith of the Church as it is manifested in our various programs. Faith
