UNDERSTANDING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE EXPLORING THE IMPACT AND FUTURE OF AI

INTRODUCTION Let’s discuss : Fundamentals of artificial intelligence (AI) Applications across various industries Ethical considerations surrounding its use We will explore the benefits and challenges of AI technology in our daily lives

WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE? What is intelligence? AI - the simulation of human intelligence in machines. AI – study about intelligent systems/machines Traditional machines Vs intelligent systems.

Intelligence is the ability to acquire knowledge and apply it to solve problems. Just as we learn to balance while riding a bicycle after falling, we use our intelligence throughout our lives to learn and adapt. Artificial intelligence simulates human intelligence by copying our processes of gathering information, thinking, applying, and learning in robots or electronic devices. Unlike calculators that follow predetermined rules, AI systems can learn, understand, and improve their responses over time. Activity: Write down 3 examples of how you used your intelligence to solve a problem today. How might a machine approach same problems?

TYPES OF AI Purely Reactive AI: Basic operational AI without memory. Limited Memory AI: Uses past experiences to make decisions. Theory of Mind AI: AI that understands human emotions (in development). Self-Aware AI: Future potential of AI understanding and consciousness. Group Activity: In teams of 3-4, identify and classify AI systems you encounter daily according to these four types. Present your findings to the class.

AI APPLICATIONS TRANSFORMING INDUSTRIES EDUCATION AI-powered learning apps and online portals adapt to individual students' needs, creating personalised learning experiences that yield better outcomes. AGRICULTURE AI-powered drones scan crop health, optimise irrigation systems, and predict yields, allowing farmers to use resources most efficiently. HEALTHCARE AI chatbots offer precise health advice to rural or low-income patients, significantly enhancing access to vital medical information. LANGUAGE Advanced AI translation technology bridges linguistic gaps globally, allowing people from various cultures to communicate freely .

CREATIVE AI APPLICATIONS Magic Eraser [Google Photos] Remove unwanted objects from photos while AI generates realistic images and backgrounds to fill the space. Content-Aware Fill [Photoshop] Extend backgrounds in photos with AI-generated content that matches the original image. Object Selection [Apple Photos] Select & extract objects from photos to create stickers or place them in new images without backgrounds.

AI IN OUR EVERYDAY LIVES Personal Devices From voice assistants like "Hey Google" and "Siri" to smart watches, TVs, and refrigerators, AI helps organise our daily affairs with remarkable convenience. Social Media Platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook use AI to recommend content based on your preferences, keeping you engaged longer. Healthcare AI assists doctors in interpreting X-rays and medical images, enabling earlier detection of diseases that might otherwise go unnoticed.

AI IN SOCIAL MEDIA: YOU ARE THE PRODUCT “ IF YOU ARE NOT PAYING FOR THE PRODUCT, YOU ARE THE PRODUCT ”

Every time you complete CAPTCHA or reCAPTCHA, selecting images or typing text, you're training AI systems. When multiple humans consistently identify the same objects, AI learns to recognise patterns with greater accuracy. This human verification helps AI distinguish between objects like cars, bicycles, and traffic lights. TRAINING AI: YOU'RE PART OF IT

DEEPFAKES AND PRIVACY ISSUES Explanation of deepfake technology and its implications. Concerns about privacy invasion and targeted advertising. R ole of AI in both creating and mitigating these issues.

DEEPFAKES AI can analyze photos and videos to create realistic but fake content of public figures, potentially spreading misinformation. Fortunately, AI itself can also detect these fakes. PRIVACY CONCERNS Many users report seeing ads for products they only discussed verbally, raising questions about whether devices are listening to conversations. MASS SURVEILLANCE Facial recognition, retina scans, and fingerprint ID enable tracking of individuals without their knowledge, creating both security benefits and privacy risks. Debate Activity: Divide into two teams to debate: "Should AI facial recognition be used in public spaces?" Prepare arguments for both sides.

BALANCING BENEFITS AND RISKS Innovation Internet began as military technology (ARPANET), AI has evolved beyond its original purpose to transform daily life. Dual Nature AI has both advantages and disadvantages, simplifying life while presenting new challenges. Countermeasures To combat negative uses of AI, "good AI" is being developed to detect deepfakes and protect privacy. Reflection Assignment: Write a one-page reflection on how you think AI will impact your future career field and what skills you should develop to thrive alongside AI technology.

THE FUTURE OF AI: YOUR TURN What if you could create your own AI tool? Would it: Offer tailored study plans? Balance your work and play schedule? Suggest recipes from available ingredients? While AI's potential is astounding, we must create and use it responsibly. Always verify facts and guard your privacy as we continue exploring this ever-changing field. Activity: Teams design their own AI tool for school, home, or society (e.g., an AI that reduces exam stress). Draw or describe its features.

CONCLUSION Artificial intelligence is a rapidly evolving field with great potential to enhance human life . It is essential to address its ethical challenges as we integrate AI into our daily routines.
