Natural products are used extensively
throughout the world, at least in 70% of
drugs available in the global market.
However, there is a great threat to
biodiversitydue to overharvesting raw
materials for herbal medicines and health
care products. Since many medicinal
plants are also in the endangered list, it is
better to adaptMetals and Mineral based
medicine,which is practiced traditionally
in India. An ancient system of traditional
Indian medicine ‘Siddha’uses metals,
metalloids and mineralsthat comprises
toxic and heavy elements such as lead,
mercury and arsenic.

Addressing these challenges requires collaboration among
pharmacologists, chemists, biologists, and clinicians to unlock the therapeutic
potential of metals and mineral baseddrugs.

Mercury –the foremost drug of rasa
sasthra, which preserves its mystical links with
tantraand alchemy, is considered as a living
substance or a living being.
In the process of converting it into a rejuvenating
medicine it goes through all of the same processes
as the siddha who seeks salvation.
First the mercury is‘awakened’, made
‘hungry’, it is fed, made to ‘swoon’ and lastly
‘killed’. Here the word ‘killing’ refers to
incineration

In the preparation of VeeraRasa Padhangan, a metal-based formulation,
mercury is extracted from mercuric perchlorideand then subjected to sublimation.
At this point, the process was paused, and a sample was sent for X-ray diffraction
(XRD) analysis to identify the compound formed. Following the XRD study, the
preparation continued with the KuppiEripputechnique, which was carried out for
12 hours

Siddha Metal,Mineral-Based
Formulations
1. Natural ingredients.
2. Multi-target approach.
3. Holistic approach.
4. Traditional knowledge
5. Cost-effective: R & D.
Through the application of drug design and development principles the Siddha science
of metal and mineral preparations, has been validated through rigorous research and
testing. The integration of these two disciplines has opened new avenues for the
discovery of novel treatments for various diseases.
As we move forward, let us continue to harness the power of Siddha metal
and mineral preparations, backed by scientific evidence, to improve human health and
wellbeing. This shift can lead to a more inclusive, integrative approach to combining the
best of traditional wisdom with modern scientific expertise . This conclusion highlights
the fusion of traditional Siddha knowledge with modern pharmaceutical sciences,
emphasizing the potential for innovative solution and the importance of evidence-
based research.
