Small and Marginal farmers, who relies entirely on agriculture are more prone for suicides in India. Livestock Farmers have been less tended for suicide, probably because of the security provided by livestock in the form livestock products or animal itself.

Provide livelihood to 2-3 rd of rural community. Also provides employment to 8.8% of the population in india . 20.5 million people depend upon livestock for their livelihood. Livestock contribute to 16% to the income of small farm households. Contributes to 4.11% of GDP and 25.6% of total agriculture GDP .

India is Worlds highest livestock owner (512.05 million). First in buffalo population (105.3 million) Second in cattle and goats population (140.5 million goats) Second largest poultry market in the world. Third in sheep population (72 million). Fifth in ducks and chicken population. Tenth in camel population. (As per 19 th livestock census)
