Use of holography
WHAT IS HOLOGRApHY ? ‘ Holography’ means the ‘science of producing holograms’. “It is an advanced form of photography that allows an image to be recorded in three dimensions. “holography is a method of producing a visual three-dimensions (3-D) image of an object by means of light wave patterns recorded on a photographic plate”. It is known as lens-less photography and produces life like images. Holography techniques was invented by scientist ‘ DENNIS GABOR’
hologram and its properties: “HOLOGRAM” is a photograph of an interference pattern which , when suitably illuminated by laser light, produces a 3D image. PROPERTIES OF HOLOGRAM: If you look at the holograms from different angles , you will see objects from different perspectives , just like if you were looking at a real object. It shows divisible property i.e if you cut one in half , each half contains whole views of the entire holographic image
WORKING OF HOLOGRAPHY Laser light : usually helium – neon (He-Ne) laser is used in hologram. Beam splitter is the device that uses mirrors and prisms to split laser beam into two beams : Object beam Reference beam Mirrors directs the beams of light to correct locations. Holographic film records images at very high resolution. It can be seen through naked eye. Image floats in free space.
APPLICATIONS OF HOLOGRAPHY Optical computers Bio-medical Applications Compact disk Grocery store Holographic Interferometery Holographic Scanners Holo-stores
Optical computers Optical computers will use holograms as “circuit elements”. Biomedical applications Holograms are made inside live organs through optical fibers, providing more details than any previous alternate techniques. Compact discs Compact discs players use holograms to handle light. GROCERY STORE Grocery store scanners use spinning holograms.
Holographic interferometry Holographic interferometry is used in numerous laboratories for non-destructive testing. HOLOGRAPHIC SCANNERS Holographic scanners are used in store check-out counters for reading the bar codes . HOLOSTORE HOLOSTORE is a holographic computer memory system being manufactured to replace your disc drive. There are many other applications like video gaming live room and it is also used for educational purposes.
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF HOLOGRAPHY ADVANTAGES COST EFFECTIVE. HIGHER STORAGE CAPACITY. INCREASED FEASIBILITY OF OBJECT (DEPTH). ENABLES THE ACHIEVEMENT OF MULTIPLE IMAGE ON A SINGLE PLATE AND GIVE 3-D IMAGES. ABILITY TO COMBINE WITH OTHER TECHNOLOGIES. DISADVANTAGES PROVIDE STATIC IMAGES. DOESN’T PRODUCE IMAGES OF COMPLEX MOVEMENT. REQUIRES COMPLICATED PRECISE MACHINERY TO PRODUCE AND VIEW IMAGE. REFERENCE ILLUMINATION BEAMS ARE COLLINEAR.
conclusion Holographic technology has endless applications as far as the human mind can imagine. Holographic technologies are not just about art or business communication, they are more about safety ,security , education, planning and the strength of our civilization here and beyond . Holographic technology will became a very integral part of human societies and civilizations in future.
