In this close viewing I will be using the films Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, directed by Edgar
Wright, to show significant aspects/techniques of different scenes used in both films. I will be
focusing on the features of sound effects, dialogue and comparing near same scenes within two
different films and the aspects that Edgar Wright was trying to cover.
Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz both have fence jumping scenes. In Shaun of the Dead, the
scene is opened with Shaun opening the gate quite forcefully along with the rest of his team.
Shaun says The Winchester s just over there and David says in a sarcastic tone, Just over there
behind the 20 garden fences? When David is saying the last bit of his sentence the camera pans
over the fences in which they have to jump to show audiences what they have to jump over. For
example, to show why David is being sarcastic towards Shaun, and why it s being used in that
particular scene, Shaun then says What s the matter, David? Never taken a shortcut before? , and
smirks while turning behind, and tries to jump over the fence but ends up making the fence fall
over. He then picks himself back up and subtly tries to make it seem like he didn t just break the
fence. The background noise in this scene is filled with car alarms, house alarms and deep music

Introduction Having the privilege to serve in the military has allowed this writer the opportunity
to be exposed to the pluralistic society in a way which has exposed him to the beauty of the
diversity enjoyed in American culture. One aspect of said diversity is the interaction which has
taken place amongst the Christian and various world religions who also wear the same uniform
in defense of America. It was the pleasure of the writer to attend a local synagogue in which his
Jewish brothers and sisters welcomed him with open arms. The local congregation of Jewish
believers went out of their way in order to ensure their newest visitor understood the flow of
service and the significance of the ritual which took place on the first Shabbat or Sabbath of the
month. The following essay will serve to detail the worship experience as well as how it and other
beliefs of Judaism compare/contrast with the Christian faith.

shower his family with unexpected surprises. He hid candy in his overcoat pockets; when he
arrived home from work, the seven took turns guessing which pocket held the treats. The ultimate
serendipitous occasion occurred when he surprised them with the news they were getting a five
foot deep, twenty two foot wide, above ground swimming pool. Only one other house in the
neighborhood had an above ground pool, so that added to the element of surprise. They felt like
they were the richest family in the world.
Sitting on the sidewalk that ran along the sliding glass door, just off the kitchen facing the
backyard, all seven children sat like ducks in a row, watching the assembly of their new treasure.
Max and Hanna, along with Uncle John, walked all over the yard trying to decide the best place to

co pilot named Sue. Sue was also a professional psychotherapist and played the part well,

The dominant reason I initiated the process was to free up the unconscious repressions I believed
or had convinced myself were holding my voice back. I was essentially a singer but suffering from
oppression of the vocal chords and I am being sarcastic, though at the time I was being serious.
Having attempted private and group singing classes without success, the next step was therapy.
Concerning the repressions responsible for hijacking my voice, there may have been a few but
this was why Sue was there to assist, her job was to locate and release my repressions because my
preoccupation was with making music.

compound. Our group was given compound #107, an unidentified white powder with no other
