USING KITCHEN TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND PARAPHERNALIA A certain procedure in a given recipe may require you to use a specific tool or equipment. Most tools and utensils are designed to make cooking and baking more convenient. Kitchen tools and equipment can be classified into four categories, preparation tools special use tools, cooking tools and equipment, and storage equipment.

1. Preparation tools Preparation tools are used to prepare ingredient prior to cooking. These can be group according to their uses. Measuring tools Cutting Tools Mixing Tools

A. Measuring tools 1. Dry Measuring Cups – are nested cups of different sized and of different volumes. There are used to measure dry ingredients such as sugar and flour.

A. Measuring tools 2. Liquid Measuring Cups – are graduated measuring cups used to measure liquid ingredients like oil and water.

A. Measuring tools 3. Measuring Spoons are used to measure smaller quantified of ingredients. Similar to measuring cups for dry ingredients, there are also nested spoons in various sizes.

A. Measuring tools 6. Weighing Scale – can either be mechanical or digital. It is used to measure the weight of ingredients required in a recipe.

2. Cutting tools Cutting tools are implements designed to divide food in various shapes and sizes as called for in the recipe. Food can be sliced, chopped, minced or group using cutting tools.
