Group 1- Distributive Justice “FAIR SHARE” Scenario: The Shared Garden In a community garden, there are four friends who come together to grow fruits and vegetables. However, they have different ideas about how to distribute the produce fairly among themselves. Friend A's Perspective: They believe that the fruits and vegetables should be divided equally among all participants, regardless of how much effort each person puts into maintaining the garden. Friend B's Perspective: They suggest that those who spend more time and resources on gardening should receive a larger share of the produce as a reward for their hard work. Friend C's Perspective: They believe that those who cannot afford to buy fresh produce should receive a larger portion to ensure everyone has access to healthy food. Friend D's Perspective: They argue that those who are bigger or hungrier should receive a larger share of the produce. 4/11/2024 5

Questions for Group 1 What are the main arguments supporting your assigned perspective on fairness in sharing the garden produce? How do you define fairness in distributive justice, and how does your perspective align with distributive justice principles? 3. How would you address potential challenges or conflicts that may arise from your proposed distribution method? 4. In what ways do you think your perspective contributes to creating a sense of fairness and equality among the participants in the community garden? 4/11/2024 6

Group 2- Procedural Justice “FAIR RULES” Scenario: The Classroom Election Students in a classroom are voting to elect a class president, but there are complaints about the fairness of the election process. Candidate's Perspective: They believe that the election rules were not clearly explained, leading to confusion and misunderstandings during voting. Election Committee's Perspective: They think that some candidates had an unfair advantage because they were able to campaign more effectively or had access to resources that other candidates did not. Concerned Students' Perspective: They have concerns about how the votes were counted and whether the process was transparent and unbiased. 4/11/2024 7

Questions for Group 2 What specific aspects of the election process do you find unfair or lacking transparency, based on your assigned perspective? How would you propose improving the election rules and procedures to ensure fairness, equal opportunity, and transparency for all candidates? 3. What steps can be taken to address concerns and restore confidence in the election process among the students and teachers? 4. Group 3- Retributive Justice “FAIR CONSEQUENCES” Scenario: The Schoolyard Bullying Incident Two students in a schoolyard had a physical altercation, and now the school administration must decide on appropriate consequences for both students involved. Student A's Perspective (the alleged bully): They claim self-defense , stating that they were being bullied and reacted out of fear. Student B's Perspective (the alleged victim): They deny being a bully and argue that they were provoked by Student A. Witnesses' Perspective : They have varying accounts of what happened, making it challenging to determine who is at fault and what consequences are fair. 4/11/2024 9

Questions for Group 3 What are the main arguments supporting your assigned perspective on the fairness of consequences for the bullying incident? How do you define fairness in retributive justice, and how does your perspective align with retributive justice principles? 3. What factors should be considered in determining fair consequences for the students involved, considering the circumstances and actions leading up to the incident? 4. Teenagers' Perspective (the vandals): They express regret for their actions and are willing to repair the damage they caused. Restorative Justice Advocate's Perspective : They believe in a restorative approach, where the vandals would be required to repair the damage and participate in community service to learn from their actions. 4/11/2024 11
