VERBAL/LINGUISTIC INTELLIGENCE It is one of Howard Gardner’s nine multiple intelligences.The most basic linguistic intelligence definition is the ability to think words and use those words to express one’s thoughts to others (McKenzie, 1995).

Verbal Intelligence in the Brain It is is a skill that comes from the temporal cortex on the left side of the brain . This area has been named Broca’s Area. It has four areas of sensitivity: Semantics Phonology Syntax Praxis

Characteristics of a Linguistically Intelligent Student *writes well *tells jokes, stories, tales *has a good memory for *enjoys word games dates , names, trivia .

*spells words accurately * Good at debating *Able to explain things * Enjoys reading well

Their skills include: Listening, speaking, writing, storytelling, explaining, teaching, using humor, understanding the syntax and meaning of words, remembering information, convincing someone of their point of view.

Specific strategies for Teaching to Linguistic Intelligence -Storytelling -Brainstorming -Use of a tape recorder -To keep a journal
