What is Virtual Instrumentation(VI)? Virtual instrumentation is the use of customizable software and modular measurement hardware to create user defined measurement and control systems, called virtua l instruments. Software is used to replace a large amount of hardware, which reduces the complexity and expensiveness of the instruments.

Data Acquisition (DAQ) DAQ is the process of measuring an electric or physical phenomenon such as voltage, current, temperature, pressure, or sound with the help of computer. A DAQ system consists of sensors, DAQ measurement hardware and a computer with programmable software.

Virtual i nstruments represents a fundamental shift from traditional hardware- centered instrumentation systems to software-centered systems that exploit the computing power, productivity and connectivity capabilities of popular desktop computers.

LabVIEW programs-subroutines are termed as virtual instruments(VIs). Each VI has three components: a block diagram, a front panel and a connector panel. The back panel, which is a block diagram, contains the graphical source code.

What is Block diagram and Front panel? The block diagram includes wires, icons, functions and other LabVIEW objects. The front panel is a user interface of VI, which has all the indicators for inputs and outputs.
