VLSI Very-large-scale integration ( VLSI ) is the process of creating an integrated circuit (IC) by combining billions of transistors into a single chip.

Why VLSI?

Why VLSI?

Why VLSI?

Course Objectives Impart knowledge of MOS transistor theory and CMOS technologies Impart knowledge of Converting CMOS circuits into layouts and also the design rules/constraints associated with layouts. Impart knowledge on architectural choices and performance tradeoffs involved in designing and realizing the circuits in CMOS technology Cultivate the concepts of subsystem design processes Demonstrate the concepts of CMOS testing

Syllabus MODULE 1 Introduction Fabrication MODULE 2 MOS and BiCMOS Circuit Design Processes Basic Circuit Concepts MODULE 3 Scaling of MOS Circuits Subsystem Design Processes MODULE 4 Subsystem Design FPGA Based Systems MODULE 5 Memory, Registers and Aspects of system Testing and Verification

Course Outcomes 15EC63.1 Understand the characteristics of MOS devices and circuits, fabrication processes, design rules associated with MOS layers, scaling models, timing issues, working principle and geometrical considerations of memory elements, subsystems’ design processes and techniques, FPGA architecture and various testing principles of CMOS logic. 15EC63.2 Apply the knowledge of MOS layers to draw CMOS/ nMOS layouts and stick diagrams and also to determine the various parameters in MOS circuits. 15EC63.3 Analyze the MOS circuits to determine the parasitic effects that influence the delay in the circuits.
