The  first  formal  definition  of  Economics  was  given by  Scottish  Economist  Adam 
Smith (1723-90) and the fame must attribute to him. He published his monumental work “An 
Enquiry into the Nature and Causes of Wealth of Nations” in the year 1776, in that book he 
gave the definition to economics and explained the subject matter of economics. That’s why 
we called him as “Father of Economics” 
  Adam Smith along with the classical school of economic thought continued the legacy 
of  the  mercantilists,  and  they  considered  economics  as  the  science  of  the  process  of 
production, consumption and collection of wealth.
