What are the Working Principles of Clutch in your Car
If you are driving a manual transmission car, then you need to step down on the clutch pedal to disengage the engine.
The clutch can turn the car and make it roll without considering the speed. So, you need to disengage the clutch to stop the car.
The clutch assembly doesn’t only engage and disengage the engine crankshaft, but also engage and disengage the transmission shaft.
The transmission of the car ensures that the wheels have enough power to deliver from the engine and the transmission.
The following points define the basic working principles of the clutch by exchanging the power between the engine and transmission.
Clutch Release Bearing
The clutch release bearing handle the whole clutch process and allow it to engage and disengage the engine.
The clutch bearing rides on the clutch spring to connect with the gearbox release mechanism in the pressure plate.
When you press the clutch pedal, it releases the bearing and engages the clutch disc by the pressure plate.
Pressure Plate
The clutch pressure plate is loaded with release springs and used for securing the clutch assembly by putting the tension on it.
The pressure plate consists of sheet metal, springs, a thrust ring, release levers, and a metal pressure ring.
When you disengage the clutch, the release lever takes off the tension springs and assist the clutch bearing to disengage it.
Clutch Disc
The clutch disc is a double-sided brake pad to engage and disengage the surface of the pressure plate and the flywheel.
It is a steel plate between the pressure plate and flywheel and has a disc fits on top of the transmission’s input shaft spins.
When you press down the clutch pedal , the pressure plate and flywheel contact with the clutch disc and creates friction.
Conclusion
The clutch of your car plays an important role in engaging the engine as well as disengaging the engine in a long way.
Whenever you will notice any type of issues in the clutch of your car, consult with a reputed mechanic for fixing it.
