What Does It Mean To Be An American Essay
Being an American means supporting a person's individual freedoms, equality, being helpful, and
valuing scientific progress. Equality means that everybody should have equal facilities including
theaters and bathrooms without being distinguished by race. These freedoms are all stated in the
Constitution, but other elements also make up being an American. It also means being helpful and
supportive of others. America also looks to be a leading figure in the advances of science. Having
individual freedoms is a major component of the Constitution. These rights are specifically named
in the bill of rights. A few of them include the right to own a gun, right to free speech, and right to
stay silent during arrest. It is an American citizen's civic and legal duty to uphold these rights. How
about politically? Government of all levels supports these rights with examples including a suspect's
Miranda rights and right to a lawyer. Does every American citizen have the opportunity to revel in
this? Yes, they are not exclusionary but are instead given to blacks and whites alike. However, the

rights allows people to have rights without being distinguished by race or other physical properties.
Even if the person is of different skin color they can appreciate the freedoms provided by the
