What does John Rawls mean by \"veil of ignorance\" and \"original position\"?

Solution

In the book \"justice as fairness\" john rawl has explained \"veil of ignorance\" and \"original
position\" as a method to determine the morality of a particular situation. According to john,
when in a society citizens do not know what part they will play in the upcoming society, they are
said to be at thier original position. This is a hypothetical situation developed by the author. The
individuals in this situation choose principles that will define the basic structure of the society
they will live in. In this situation people select these principles through veil of ignorance.
In these viell individuals are deprived of information about their particular trait like their
ethnicity, social status, gender and, crucially, Conception of the Good in order to help them
select the principlesin an impartial and rational way.
