immaterial and irrelevant
•Man/Sovereign: Man is thus sovereign and
must determine right and wrong
•Humanists: Sovereign man can do as he
pleases—abortion, homosexuality,
fornication, lasciviousness, drunkenness
•Psalms 8:4: David asks: “What is man?”

3. Evolution
Hypothesis or Science?
•Science: Latin origin for “knowledge”—
hypothesis, testing, theory, replication, fact
•Evolution: Hypothesis—matter eternal;
matter generated life; life spawned species;
matter/life produced mind/moral sense/will/
emotions/ appreciate beauty
•Conclusion: No tests, no experiments to
prove hypothesis; no evidence
•Letters/DNA: 26 letters produce writings/
books; 20 amino acids produce life, animals,
man, organs; Both demand intelligence

4. Scripture
Man in God’s Image
•Jesus: Man shall not live by bread alone
(Matt 4:4). “Man”—not “I,” he said.
•Jesus: As God he was spirit before flesh (John
1:1,14; see John 4:24—God is Spirit)
•God: Let us make man in our own image—
hence “spirit” (Gen 1:26; John 4:24)
•Soul: Man has soul/life that man can’t kill or
destroy—though can kill body (Matt 10:28).
Soul can be spiritual life (Isa 1:14)
•Abraham/Isaac/Jacob: Were alive after
bodies died (Matt 22:23-33)
•Rich Man/Lazarus: Alive after burial (Luke
16:19-26)

5. Man
God Mindful of Him
•Psalms 8:4: God mindful of man above rest of
creation. Why?
–Mindful: Promises, Red Sea, Manna/Quail, Walls-
Jericho, Sun stood still, etc.
–Jesus: Died for man, church for man, scriptures
for man, heaven for man
•Ecclesiastes: Solomon describes “dust” to
“dust” and “spirit” to God (12:7; Gen 1:26)
–Flesh: Tried knowledge, wealth, partying,
entertainment, work—all vanity
–Spirit: God set eternity in heart (3:11)—thus fear
God and obey; hence above earthly creation

6. Man
God Mindful of Him
•Matthew 4:4: Man needs every word that
proceeds from God’s mouth. Why? He is more
than a body—spirit in God’s image
–Feeds: Man’s spirit is fed by word of God (1 Cor 3:1-
3; Heb 5:11-14)
–Nourish: Nourished by words of faith and good
doctrine (1 Tim 4:6)
–Exercise: Exercised in spirit by godliness or reverent
living (1 Tim 4:7)

7. Man

•Matthew 4:4: Man needs every word that
proceeds from God’s mouth. Why? He is
more than a body—spirit in God’s image
–2 Tim 3:16-17: Scripture teaches, reproves,
corrects, and trains in righteousness
–Luke 8:11-15: Seed, word of God, produces fruit
—30, 60, 90 fold (see Gal 5:22-23)
•Conclusion: Calls for purpose in heart to
deny selves and follow Jesus (Luke 9:23;
Josh 4:15)
