OPEN STACK

What is OpenStack? OpenStack is an open-source platform that uses pooled virtual resources to build and manage private and public clouds. The tools that comprise the OpenStack platform, called "projects," handle the core cloud-computing services of computing, networking, storage, identity, and image services. Other OpenStack components provide orchestration, fault management, and services intended to support reliable, high-availability operations. Businesses and service providers can deploy OpenStack on premises in the data center to build a private cloud, in the cloud to enable or drive public cloud platforms, and at the network edge for distributed computing systems.

What are the different OpenStack components? OpenStack is an open-source platform that uses pooled virtual resources to build and manage private and public clouds. The tools that comprise the OpenStack platform, called "projects," handle the core cloud-computing services of computing, networking, storage, identity, and image services. Other OpenStack components provide orchestration, fault management, and services intended to support reliable, high-availability operations. OpenStack is made up of a number of interconnected software components, which are organized into core services and optional services.

The core services include: This service is responsible for managing and provisioning virtual machines. NOVA It is responsible for authenticating users and managing access control for the other OpenStack services. Keystone This service is responsible for managing and storing virtual machine images. Glance This service is responsible for managing block storage devices such as hard disks. Cinder This service is responsible for configuring virtual networks, and for providing advanced networking functionality such as load balancing and VPNs. Neutron

The optional services include: This service is responsible for storing and managing objects such as files and images. Swift This service provides scalable and reliable Cloud Database-as-a-Service provisioning capabilities. Trove This service provides a web-based interface for managing the OpenStack cloud. Horizon This service is responsible for collecting and analyzing usage and performance data. Ceilometer This service is responsible for automating the orchestration of multiple composite cloud applications. Heat

Advantages Scalable Affordable Reliable Vendor-neutral Secure

Disadvantages Lack of consistency Complexity Lack of support Upgrading challenges Performance issues

Nova Scheduler Service OpenStack is an open-source platform that uses pooled virtual resources to build and manage private and public clouds. The tools that comprise the OpenStack platform, called "projects," handle the core cloud-computing services of computing, networking, storage, identity, and image services. Other OpenStack components provide orchestration, fault management, and services intended to support reliable, high-availability operations. The OpenStack nova-scheduler service supports plugins to filter which hosts are eligible candidates on which to schedule a virtual machine. The AppFormix Filter queries the Contrail Insights Platform to determine if a host is compliant with the Host Scheduling service-level agreement (SLA). If a host is not compliant with the SLA policy, then the host is filtered from the list of eligible hosts. If the AppFormix Filter fails to request the SLA status of a host, then the host remains in the eligible pool.

OpenStack Controller OpenStack is an open-source platform that uses pooled virtual resources to build and manage private and public clouds. The tools that comprise the OpenStack platform, called "projects," handle the core cloud-computing services of computing, networking, storage, identity, and image services. Other OpenStack components provide orchestration, fault management, and services intended to support reliable, high-availability operations. OpenStack Controller runs the Identity service, Image service, management portions of Compute, management portion of Networking, various Networking agents, and the dashboard. The controller also includes supporting services such as an SQL database, message queue, and NTP. Optionally, the controller node runs portions of the Block Storage, Object Storage, Orchestration, and Telemetry services. The controller node requires a minimum of two network interfaces. The OpenStack controller is a crucial component of an OpenStack cloud environment since it is responsible for managing and orchestrating the various services and resources within the OpenStack infrastructure.
