MEANING These committees have been regarded as the most effective social institution of industrial democracy and as a statutory body , established within the industrial units with representatives of the management and workmen , for preventing, and settling industrial disputes at the unit level. The works committee can be formed by any enterprise, employing 100 or more workers .

OBJECTIVES OF WORKS COMMITTEES To remove the causes of friction in the day-to-day work situation by providing an effective grievance – resolving machinery To promote measures securing good relationships To serve as a useful adjunct in establishing continuing bargaining relationship To strengthen the spirit of voluntary settlement

6. CHARACTERISTICS OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS are a good listener talk with co-workers about issues tell co-workers about decisions keep co-workers up to date are the team’s voice in meetings are prepared for meetings ask questions during meetings take part in meetings. 6

7. COMMITTEE MEMBERS LEARN HOW TO: ask questions share information and ideas solve problems listen to other people’s ideas discuss ideas make decisions. 7

8. HOW TO COMPOSE A WORK COMMITTEES 19 yrs. of age 1 yr experience as a participant 6 mon. min. experience as a voter date will fix for the nomination with a closing date closing date must be informed before 7 days within 5 days after the closing date the elections must be held.

9. DISSOLUTION OF THE WORKS COMMITTEE not less than two – thirds of the members of representatives of workmen have , without reasonable justification, failed to attend three consecutive meetings of the committee, the committee has ceased to function for any other reason
