Personal Reflection Of Personal Goals In The Honey Whiskey...
When I began pursuing my MFA in writing, I knew what I wanted my thesis to be, I just needed some
guidance in order to get there. I had completed my first novel, Seeking Signs, which weaves a
narrative around an Iowa crime in 1913 and won the Midwest Book Award for historical fiction from
the Midwest Independent Publishers Association in 2013. The research and writing that went into it
caused me to fall in love with the process and look for another challenge, one even more complex than
the first. Through my MFA pursuits, I wanted to hone my research skills, improve my ability to
establish vivid historical imagery, and gain a solid foothold on the voice necessary to tell my next tale.
My goals for the second novel, The Honey Whiskey Murders, began with exploring untapped research
avenues. While I had a plot in mind, I knew it was important to stay open to the unexpected places the
information took me. The research that went into the project was so entertaining, it was sometimes
difficult to force myself to sit down and write.
I read Murder and Mayhem in Clinton County, Iowa, a book published by the Clinton County
historical museum which includes a compilation of all newspaper articles covering both solved and
unsolved murders from the area dating back to the mid 1800s. The case of Homer and Rosela
Brownfield is one of many unsolved murders in my home county. The Brownfield murders made
headlines as far away as Ohio; these reports sensationalized the crime with statements

The Falling Soldier Robert Capa Analysis
There are a lot of questions being raised about the authenticity of the Falling Soldier [9]. Some
historians went back to the war site to investigate the place and found no major battle being taking
place between the two parties at Cerro. The Spanish newspaper: El Periódico de Catalunya sent
reporter to verify the location of the photo and it matches perfectly with the Robert Capa s photo. To
this day, there are still a lot of disputes about the authenticity of Robert Capa s Falling Soldier.
Whether or not the Falling Soldier was staged or actual picture of the war, everyone has learned a
lesson from Robert Capa. We learned that war is brutal, people have to sacrifice their lives to obtain
their freedom. Robert Capa learned his lesson of freedom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process of getting these photos are extremely hard for Robert as he joined the 16th Infantry
Regiment of the 1st Infantry division of the allies force in the second wave of assault[11]. The
temperature of water on D Day is forty five to fifty degree, and Robert Capa has to submerge himself
into the water to hide from the fire. Not to mention the possible danger of a grenade or heavy artillery
from the Nazi. In most war photographer eyes, the assignment is nearly a suicide mission. Robert
Capa have to go in front of the allies soldier in order to capture the most realistic photo of D Day. One
of the photos that caught most people s attention is the one with an American GI moving toward
Omaha Beach. The picture depicted a soldier moving forward with his weapon moving slowly
towards the beach. The background of the photo consists of debris from aircrafts and boat; however
the photo was not focused due to the nature of war photograph. Through the picture, it shows how
intense D Day was and how brutal war is against other sides of the army. The American GI had no
facial expression at all and saved focus his attention on the enemy on the beach, which proves this to
be the very true moment of war and not staged photography. As a war photographer, Robert Capa is
always trying to get closer and closer to the subject to present the true moment of war and people. He
once said If your pictures aren t good enough, you aren t close enough (Capa).[12] The close to
subject technique is employed in a lot of Robert Capa s photographs, including the famous D Day
photographs of the allies forces. He goes closer to the subject than any photographers because he
understands if order to depict the true moment of war and educate people, he has to take the extra
steps to push his photographs to that level. In his D Day photo, the people

The Downside Of Downsizing Analysis
According to the article, The Downside of Downsizing, Caela Farren, points out that companies no
longer have loyalty to their workers; therefore, it is no surprise that workers no longer look to remain
in jobs long term. Farren also believes that companies need to look beyond the bottom line and see
that it is the human factor that makes the company successful (Farren, 2008). Receiving notice that
your position will be impacted by a reduction in force, downsizing, or outsourcing, regardless of what
it is called, it has the same effect and that is a loss of employment and security. Reports of job loss in
2015 indicate that close to180,000 people have been eliminated by mass layoffs from large companies.
The news reports that there are more cuts still to come before year end. What is causing all these
people to lose their jobs? Bankruptcies, restructuring, divestitures to focus on mainstay products, and
reduction in federal budgets have all been listed as reasons for the job losses (Zillman, 2015). ... Show

The biggest difference between these two is that off shoring indicates that jobs are leaving the U.S.
and being assumed by foreign entities. This is the case that occurred to the accounting employees at
the Toys R Us headquarters earlier in 2015. Temporary workers from India were brought in to learn
and document the processes of American accountants. Once these tasks were completed, the Toys R
Us employees in New Jersey were laid off and their jobs were assumed in India. This was
accomplished under a temporary work visa program that was designed by Congress. However, it was
meant to bring foreigners with unique skills to help American companies grow, not to take jobs away
from Americans and move them to other countries (Preston,

Love Songs Essay
Every day on the radio, there is bound to be a love song playing somewhere. These types of songs can
seem upbeat and happy, but that is just the music playing behind the lyrics. The music in these songs
are written in a major key which make the song sound lively and cheerful. Even with the darkest
meaning behind the lyrics, the music can give off different perspectives. Many people believe that
love songs are about love but in reality some of those songs have a depressing story behind them.
Many love songs are not love songs at all if one examines the lyrics.
In fact the song It will rain by Bruno Mars is a clear example of a love song with a complete different
meaning to it than love. The verse if you ever leave me baby leave some ... Show more content on

One last thing he says is I can t feel my face when I m with you, but I love it. This refers to the state of
being wasted or high. He loves the emotions and feeling he gets when he is doing these drugs.
Furthermore, another example of a song with a darker meaning would be Little Talks by Of Monsters
and Men. This song is another example of many songs that don t quite refer to love. For instance this
song without paying close attention to the lyrics is a conversation between two people that love each
other. In reality it s an illusion a woman is having with a supposed man as stated in the verse, I miss
our little talks. As the song continues the woman gives of a hint when the song reads, you re gone,
gone, gone away... Just let me go, we ll meet again soon. This verse foreshadows that the woman is
slowly getting lost in mental illness after the death of her partner. That s why her illusions are
fulfilling that empty space that her partner left behind when he died. Many artists write songs that can
be interpreted in many different ways, and the songs stated above are not an exception to this rule.
Taking a closer look at the lyrics and analyzing them can show a better meaning of what the artist is
trying to tell the listener. Many artists try to conceal a hidden message in their songs to hide their
darkest secrets to prevent a bad reputation against them. With the different songs

Claude Garamond Research Paper
Claude Garamond was born in 1499 in Paris, France. As an apprentice in 1510 with a printer and a
Parisian punch cutter, Claude Garamond was able to specialize in printer and typeface services to
publishers. Being the first to design type, Claude Garamond was determined to be his own publisher
and use his font designs in his works. With being a type designer, Claude Garamond made sure to rely
on his own creativity to showcase his craft as a designer as well as to be able to discipline himself in
his own work of craftsmanship. With his discipline of his own craft, this represented a specific talent
as well as catering to those of high regards in society. Because Garamond was also in the print
industry, also specializing in punch cutting and binding, his knowledge of format was essential in
addition to his type design. In the formatting of his publishing, he ensured the layout ... Show more

Garamond to be one of the most important designers and punch cutters. Being highly respected, the
finest printers greatly demanded to work with Garamond s typefaces. With being commissioned by
Royalty of the French, Claude Garamond was highly recognized by patrons that were influential and
with great wealth. Although Claude Garamond was respected and highly respected by those with
wealth and royalty, this was also part of his dissatisfaction due to being recognized by popularity of
his designs not because of him being a designer who was able to master his crafts, not just with type.
As being a pioneer in type design, Garamond was a true innovator in his typefaces as well as being
able to compliment other typeface designs with his current typefaces. He was able to design oblique
capitals as well as italic lowercases, which made him one of the most distinguished typeface

Music in Generations Essay
All music has changed tremendously throughout the years. Each generation has several specific songs
that defines that generation. Every song has different lyrics that describe the emotions that the artists
are feeling. The songs connect to each individual in many different ways. Lyrics to a song is what
makes music wonderful. Each song touches someone through ways like teaching a life lesson or
touching your heart. Every generation has music that impacts the world by motivating people to do
certain things or defines a person s personality. Each generation has music that defines the generation.

This generation has obtained a tremendous amount of accessible information through technology.
Technology has progressed during this generation which has corrupted the minds of teens everywhere.
Since technology has become a huge factor in generation y s lives, the technology for music has
transformed as well. Just in generation y s period of time, the way to obtain music advanced from
cassettes to downloading or pirating music. When someone wanted to purchase a song, they would
have to buy the whole cassette or cd. In reality, they spent way too much just to listen to that one or
two songs. Technology has created a way that people can buy or steal songs. Without technology
generation y would be lost, technology helps music define a generation. Generations before generation
y think that television, music videos, and music in general has affected the kids in generation y. Trends
and habits are formed by listening or watching. Music has wonderful and meaningful effects on
different people depending on how the music is retained. Music videos affect generations differently
because each generation has a different outlook and opinion on the lyrics. Each teen or adult reacts to
music videos differently. Most songs and music videos incorporate love along with heart breaks, life
scenarios, money and the different styles of life. Our generation s music is considered to be one of the
best generations of

Essay about Napoleon
During rough times in France in the late 1700 amp;#8217;s, an anarchy was being formed. A
revolution turned into civil war and the people were unhappy and needed a leader. At this time,
General Napoleon Bonaparte took an opportunity. Napoleon amp;#8217;s fame for winning battles in
the Middle East and Egypt and crushing royalist uprisings back at home allowed him to take over the
Directory with ease. Recognized for his great military skills and outstanding leadership, Napoleon
easily won over the hearts of the people. Napoleon amp;#8217;s first move was to obtain leadership.

Though many accomplishments were shown in government as well as religion, Napoleon
amp;#8217;s main interests were focused on building an empire. After defeating Italy and Austria, and
persuading Russia to withdraw from the war, Napoleon named himself Emperor.
Though Napoleon was very successful on land and in battles, he also had many unsuccessful attempts.
Napoleon amp;#8217;s rage against Britain remained unsuccessful. He attempted many tactics against
the British army. At the Battle of Trafalgar, Napoleon amp;#8217;s loss was severe. The unexpected
raid of the British admiral Lord Nelson, forced Napoleon to lose. Soon after this loss, Napoleon
attempted to force Economic Blockades on Britain called the Continental System. He demanded that
his conquered countries not trade with Britain, and asked Russia and Prussia to participate. The British
counter to this move was to demand that any ship going to Europe, was to report in to Great Britain
first. After a while, the French Navy was not able to hold off the British navy and the Continental
System failed. The French Economy soon worsened and Napoleon continued to expand his empire.
Napoleon then made many more moves stirring up more trouble. He named his brothers kings in
conquered countries, and removed the Holy Roman Empire, setting up the Confederation of the Rhine.
This angered the Prussians, causing them to declare war. The Prussian uprisings were easily
conquered by the French. As Napoleon conquered

Romeo And Juliet Comparative Analysis
Romeo and Juliet has been a popular story for over 400 years, which was written by William
Shakespeare. Two directors created their own interpretations of the play. Franco Zefferelli directed a
version of the play which had many similarities and differences to Baz Luhrmann. Furthermore, both
films have many similar and different interpretations of Mercutio from the original play. However,
Harold Perrineau did a more realistic portrayal of Mercutio s death, while McEnery demonstrated a
more comedic portrayal of Mercutio. In general, McEnery demonstrates being more comedic than
Harold Perrineau. For example, when McEnery decides to pull up the nurse s dress and decides to
make fun of her by singing that she is a prostitute. McEnery says to the Nurse, A bawd, a bawd, a
bawd! So ho... No hare, sir; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leading up to Mercutio s death in front of Romeo in both films, when Tybalt and Mercutio are
fighting, Zefferelli has them playing around. This scene makes it look like as if Tybalt and Mercutio
are just fighting to fight. After Mercutio is stabbed, Benvolio asks Mercutio if he is hurt and Mercutio
responds with, Ay, ay, a scratch. Marry, tis enough (Shakespeare 3.1.97 100). During these lines of
dialogue, McEnery portrays Mercutio as a jokester because he crawls up the church steps and falls
again, while everyone is laughing at him. Although, in the original play we know Mercutio jokes
around and is never to be taken seriously, Mercutio s death in the modern film is more believable.
Harold Perrineau portrays a more serious death of Mercutio. He acts more believable as someone
actually dying. Mercutio s final moment happens when he gets a deep cut from a piece of glass during
the fight between Tybalt. Mercutio is yelling at Romeo while he is dying. No one thinks that Mercutio
is playing around. This is how Perrineau did an excellent job at portraying Mercutio s

Essay On Calorimeters
This assay is much more sensitive and requires less sample preparation than widely used techniques.
Aptamers may also be nanoengineered that are able to selectively bind to PrPSc and prevent it from
inducing conformational changes, effectively neutralizing it.
Another approach to differentiating PrP isoforms is nanocalorimetry, which can also assist in
determining the function of PrPC and a more precise description of how PrPSc converts PrPC into
more PrPSc. As Lee, Lee and Koh (2012) proclaim, heat is ubiquitous in nature and as almost all
biological and chemical phenomena involve enthalpy changes, a calorimetric sensor can be used for
virtually any type of interaction (p. 17). Calorimeters at the micro and nano scale are generally ...

Xu et al. have managed to use the vertically integrated nanogenerator to power a nanowire pH sensor
and a nanowire UV sensor, thus demonstrating a self powered system composed entirely of nanowires
(p. 366). Zinc Oxide nanowires were shown to have a pH dependent voltage generation, with the
voltage output being directly proportionate to the pH (Xu et al, p. 371). Since the cerebrospinal fluid is
a slightly alkaline environment, the expected voltage of a CNS monitoring nanodevice would be mid
range.
Procedures and Data Analysis
To determine the function of normal prion proteins, nanocalorimetry can analyze molecular
interactions. Additionally, long term studies utilizing RNAi to knockout the PrP gene in Mus musculus
will help elucidate effects throughout life span and generations. Once more is known about the
normally expressed protein, different treatments, such as RNAi and gene therapy can be employed, if
necessary.
Zheng s lab is working on a filter to capture metastasizing cancer cells (Zheng, p. 25). While PrPC are
sessile, PrPSc can migrate through the CSF and other bodily fluids, therefore a similar nanofilter
device could be used to capture them. Zheng has found that microsprings do less damage to the cancer
cells and achieve larger fluid flow. The spring structure is more flexible and so less pressure is
required to move... through the filter (Zheng, p. 26). Zheng s lab has designed both microfluidic and

Executive Summary Many factors must be examined to find the underlying reason for the horrible
disaster of the space shuttle Challenger. We will cover both the technical causes to the disaster and the
communication breakdown with NASA. We will also look at the outside pressure that NASA was
receiving from the media, congress and the military. Recommendations for NASA and anyone in the
communication field will be given. These recommendations will help to avoid any further problems

If the Orings do not properly seal these gaps it is possible for exhaust gasses to get into the internal
structure of the joint field. The extreme temperatures of the exhaust gasses are too high for the internal
joint, known as the Tang and Clevis, to handle. The Tang and Clevis are the two main parts of the
joint. They are mating sections that are held together with one hundred seventy seven pins. Without
the O rings, the Tang and Clevis are not able to withstand the extreme pressure of exhaust gasses.

Four Technical Problems First let s look at the four mechanical aspects of the Challengers problems,
blow holes, O Ring erosion, joint rotation, and the response of O Rings during low temperature. The
condition of the primary seal is essential to the successful operation of the rocket booster. Engineers
had to make sure that the seal was not damaged, so they increased the pressure of the leak test to
above the pressure that the putty could withstand. This was supposed to make sure the O ring was
correctly covering the gap without the help of the putty. Blow holes were tiny tunnel like holes that
were left in the zinc chromate putty of the rocket booster insulation. The putty was supposed to protect
the O rings from the hot exhaust. The holes were a result of pressurized test known as the leak check
port. The leak test left engineers worried; they didn t think that the

Boss s Poem The World Is In Pencil

Prof. Nyland
ENGL 102 75A
December 8, 2014
Three Years of Permanent Ink I struggle with opening up my emotions when reading a story or poem.
I stay bottled up because if I feel something for it, it just makes me think of a time when I felt
worthless. The poem The World Is in Pencil, by Todd Boss opened me up and allowed me to feel
vulnerable. Its length is only sixteen short lines, but those lines mean a great deal. This poem is about
being in control of your life and symbolically writing your life in pencil, so that nothing is ever
permanent. The pencil stands for the control you have over your life and the ability to write your own
existence. There were a few years of my life where I didn t make my own decisions and I wasn t ...

the happiest days of my life because despite everyone s criticism, I eventually achieved something I
wanted. I got to walk the stage with my friends and receive my diploma. When I shook the hand of the
Board of Education President, I felt freedom. I looked down at the people who terrorized me and I
smiled. Not only did I receive a diploma that day, but I received a pencil, the most freeing utensil I
ever held. Todd Boss says it best in his poem by saying, I ll bet it felt good in the hand the o of the
ocean, and the and and the and of the land (12 16). Boss is saying that when we write our lives and
worlds out in pencil, we are free to explore vast areas and open ranges of ideas. It feels good to be in
control of my life once again. I carry my pencil with pride and choose my own destiny, just as Boss
would want me

Political Philosophy, By Steven Cahn
In Steven Cahn s book, Political Philosophy, The Essential Texts, philosophers such as Socrates, Plato,
Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau created the circumstances to enable the fundamental
principals of philosophy and politics. These knowledgeable, astute and significant men have helped to
achieve the structure of our past and present democracy as well as a plan of action for the rights and
values that we as citizens can all relate to today. They are grounded in their thinking and tied together
as a whole in ideas and practices of politics, philosophy and humankind. Possessors of morals and
ethics reflected in their works have influenced current social interaction and the foundation of our
current practice of democracy in which we have relied upon this present day. For over a hundred
years, theorists have deliberated the nature of our species and the method of governing appropriately
to warrant the Commonwealth. Today in politics there is a palpable disunion about the useful role of
system and a sharp division regarding human nature.
The role of government and society s role individually had been critical topics of the philosophers.
Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle had their thoughts on the subject of fairness and the government.
Socrates was convinced that democracy was not a sensible form of government, in his opinion, the
electorate of the people was rough justice. Plato alleged that government ought only to have rulers

3 1 Describe the major sources of income and expenditures for households
1. (Evolution of the Household) Determine whether each of the following would increase or decrease
the opportunity costs for Mothers who choose not to work outside the home. Explain your answers.
a. Higher levels of education for women
b. Higher unemployment rates for women
c. Higher average pay levels for women
d. Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of women
Higher levels of education for women would increase the opportunity cost for women chosing to work
outside the home. The opportunity cost rises because as a women s education level increases, so does
the available positions the woman is qualified for, hence a higher level of income. This means a
woman chosing not to work outside the home is forgoing the opportunity for higher education for
women to benefit her and her potential to earn higher wages. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Fewer positions equal fewer opportunities. Therefore, women chosing not to work outside the home
are not effected by higher employment rates for women. Higher average pay levels for women would
increase the opportunity cost. Women chosing to work outside the home would have more opportunity
at higher wages. Whereas, women chosing not to work outside the home relinquish the higher
earnings. Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of women
would mean fewer positions available for women choosing to work outside the home, causing the
opportunity costs to fall. Again, this would have very little effect on women choosing to not work

Diedrich Knickerbocker Essay
Diedrich Knickerbocker Washington Irving created a pseudo historian for the purpose of bettering his
own work and to entertain his readers. In 1809 Irving wrote A History of New York through a persona
known as Diedrich Knickerbocker. This was Knickerbocker s first appearance in Irving s work, but it
sure wouldn t be his last. Although he was not real, Knickerbocker was a historian that seemed to be in
love with the people and landscape of the northeast, particularly New York. Even though Irving never
revealed it, some of his characteristics may be found within Knickerbocker s writing. Washington
Irving was born in New York City in 1783, he always had an appreciation of the land and people from
there. Irving was quite opposed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another story that was found among the papers of Diedrich Knickerbocker was The Legend of Sleepy
Hollow. Both of these stories are tall tales that Irving wrote as entertainment for his readers, but he
mentioned in both that these were stories told to Knickerbocker by people of Dutch origin, he made
sure that the reader knew that. In both of these stories Irving describes the incredible scenery of New
York, and he also describes the kindness and simplicity of the Dutch people. In Rip Van Winkle he
says he happened upon a genuine Dutch family, snugly shut up in its low roofed farmhouse, under a
spreading sycamore… (Irving 573). He also describes a great mountain setting in New York When the
weather is fair and settled, they are clothed in blue and purple, and print their bold outlines on the
clear evening sky; but, sometimes, when the rest of the landscape is cloudless, they will gather a hood
of gray vapors about their summits, which, in the last rays of the setting sun, will glow and light up
like a crown of glory. Diedrich Knickerbocker s conception of authorship was heroic. The business of
writing was a perilous enterprise, and only those who were dauntless and daring could succeed in their
quest for fame. Writers were intrepid knights who courageously confronted all difficulties and
hardships as they journeyed toward publication, a textual pilgrimage that required

The Effect Of Different Stretching Techniques On Myosin Actin
The Effects of Different Stretching Techniques on Myosin and Actin Fibers and How it Affects
Athletic Performance
Actin and myosin filaments can be found in skeletal muscle and are the smallest units that form a
sarcomere, which is the smallest contractile unit in muscle (Baechle, 2008). The Sliding Filament
Theory states that the actin filaments slide inward on the myosin filaments, pulling on the boundaries
of the sarcomere, causing it to shorten the muscle fiber, also known as a concentric muscular
contraction (Baechle, 2008). The Sliding Filament Theory is composed of five steps: the Resting
Phase , the Excitation Contraction Coupling Phase , the Contraction Phase , the Recharge Phase , and
the Relaxation Phase (Baechle, 2008). During the Resting Phase, the actin and myosin filaments are
lined up with no cross bridge binding of the two filaments. During the Excitation Contraction
Coupling Phase, Calcium is released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum and binds to troponin, causing a
shift in tropomyosin where the binding cites are exposed (Baechle, 2008). When the binding cites are
exposed, the myosin cross bridge head attaches to actin. During the Contraction Phase, ATP bonds
break, releasing energy that is used to allow the myosin head to flex, causing the actin filaments to
move toward the M bridge. During the Recharge Phase, there is a continuous repetition of the
Excitation Contraction Coupling Phase and the Contraction Phase in order to produce muscular

In Francis Fukuyama s The End of History? published in 1989, he posits that with the end of the Cold
War, humanity is reaching a point where Western liberal democracy and economic structure is the
highest form of ideological development. Other ideologies (communism, fascism, etc.) are vestigial
forms of thinking destined to fail and disappear in an inevitable progression towards a liberal system
(Fukuyama 1989). In The Clash of Civilizations? published in 1993, Samuel Huntington writes that
the world is divided into civilizations, based on culture (not ideology or economic factors), and that
the conflicts of the future (and some in the present) will be based on divisions along those lines. These
include, according to Huntington, Western, Confucian, Japanese, Islamic, Hindu, Slavic Orthodox,
Latin American and possibly African... (Huntington 1993, 25). While these theories are seemingly
compatible at first glance Fukuyama s Western liberalism can be the victor in Huntington s war of
civilizations there is a major difference, and some important reasons for this difference, which we can
find in the authors pasts.
I believe that the major difference is Fukuyama s faith in a victory for Western liberalism. While
Huntington is satisfied with showing that other civilizations/cultures will clash with the West s,
Fukuyama is confident that the West is already on its way to victory. We can

Sir John Alexander Macdonald Essay examples
Sir John A. Macdonald was one of Canada s founding fathers. He is most remembered as being
Canada s first Prime Minister, running the government from July 1, 1867 until November 5, 1873.
Macdonald would become Prime Minister once again on October 17, 1878 and would stay in this
position until June 6,1891. While he was leader of the country he faced his own share of political
obstacles, including Confederation, the Metis rebellion and threats of an American he is among the
greatest leaders Canada has ever seen and played a significant part in the forming of Canada as a
country.

After Macdonald was back in Kingston, Ontario he entered active politics. Kingston was a
conservative town, so when Macdonald entered politics he therefore joined the Conservative Party. In
1843 Macdonald was elected an alderman in Kingston, then in 1844 he won an election giving him a
seat in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada. The members of the Assembly quickly
recognized Macdonald?s political abilities, resulting in him being made Receiver General in 1844 for
the Conservative Government. This position gave him a seat on the Executive Council in the Province
of Canada. The Conservative government of William Draper was defeated a year later so for the next
few years Macdonald assisted in the rebuilding of the Conservative Party. ( Macdonald, Sir )
Macdonald felt the key to Canada?s success, as a country, would rely on its connection to its mother
country, Britain. Macdonald showed these feelings in his first address to the electors:
I therefore need scarcely state my firm belief that the prosperity
of Canada depends upon its permanent connection with the mother country, and that I shall resist to
the utmost any attempt (from whatever quarter it may come) which may tend to weaken that union. (
Macdonald, Sir John ) True to her promise, Isabella Clark came to Canada during the summer of 1843.
Macdonald and Clark hit it off during the summer and thus got married

Fallacies In The Real World
In the aspect of everyday lives, the ability to process and decipher critical information is a must in
order to be successful. The benefits of having the ability to seek higher education are the important
lessons that are taught in terms of the ability to process and work through important information and
scenarios. Lessons learned through hardship or what may be perceived as a delay lead to the character
developments and shape the future and the goals of many students. Fallacious thinking and the
distortion of the mind affect student s abilities to process and succeed in the real world only they are
allowed as a distraction from their major goals; these diversions or what may be considered distressing
situations lead to lessons learned and an increase in focus on future goals. Students will take what may

Hally s Optimism In Master Harold And The Boys
Some people in the world may view a glass half empty, and some half full. This can be used to tell a
lot about somebody. Throughout the play Master Harold and The Boys Hally and Sam s characters are
introduced, and there are numerous times when Sam s positivity will outshine Hally s negativity, or
vice versa. Hally s pessimistic attitude shows a clear juxtaposition to Sam s optimism. This is seen
through Sam trying to make sure Hally has something good in his life to remember, Hally being
verbally negative about the comic books, later on physically and verbally attacking Sam, and Sam
attempting to stay calm and positive. There are not many of Hally s childhood memories shown
throughout the play, let alone happy ones. The happy ones that were shown, though, were from Sam.
Hally reminisces on the Afternoons in Sam s room as the good times with Willy and Sam (32). Along

entire life, this just supports the idea that Hally is a naturally pessimistic person about most aspects in
his life. Even though Hally spits on and verbally abuses Sam, Sam stays calm after the whole thing.
After having Hally attack Sam, Sam manages to stay calm through it, and in the end, he ends up
asking Hally if he wants to try again to fly a new kite (59). This is symbolic of Hally and Sam
attempting to try again to mend their relationship and go back to how they were. Sam offering up this
opportunity to Hally after he had just been attacked shows how much of a positive and optimistic
person Sam is, to focus on the future and how they can move past

Conbolism In The Symbols Of The Hamburger Mary s
Hamburger Mary s. According to Mrs. Young (2017), the rainbow can be displayed in the form of a
sticker, tattoo, or flags (Young, personal communications, June 26, 2017). There is also a symbol of
the LGBTQ community that is not as commonly known. Per Mrs. Young (2017), there is a yellow
equal symbol with a blue background (Young, personal communications, June 26, 2017). I have seen
this symbol becoming popular as a bumper sticker on automobiles. Mrs. Young (2017) also talked
about the sexual symbols such as two women and two men, as well as the puns. The puns can include
Gaydar and Born this way slogans (Young, personal communications, June 26, 2017). With artifacts
being expressed openly other members of the subculture are aware of the shared subculture of which
they are a part of. When members of the subculture find out about a new member it does not make

subculture make the huge misconception that everyone that is in the subculture knows one another.
Furthermore, those that are a part of the subculture make friends the same way as those outside of the
subculture. Just because another person is LGBTQ does not make them instant friends (Young,
personal communications, June 26, 2017). The LGBTQ is an increasingly known subculture. The
members of the subculture not only have their own functions, but they also make an impact in our
Colorado community. I have noticed the impact of the subculture becoming well known and is still on
the rise of recognition.
There are bars, parades, community gatherings, and even restaurants that are available to the public

Star Wars John Williams Essay

Star Wars was first released in May 1977. It is a series of movies based on an epic space adventure

distant past, and portrays two important characterization like the Jedi as a representation of good, in
conflict with the Sith, their evil counterpart. The overall box office produced over 4.38 billion dollars,
making Star Wars one of the fifth highest grossing films of all time. Many believe the film would not
have reached its highest without the prominently themed music created by John Williams. The
renowned themes the force and imperial march are one of Williams most widely known music scores
and motion pictures of all history. John Williams was able to vividly depict the characters conflict
between good and evil through the use of musical elements like timbre, pitch and duration to create
the individual characters.
The composer utilised timbre to express the evil tyranny of the storm troopers arrival in the Darth
Vader s theme . The composer uses instrumentation like strings, timpani, horns and great emphasis on

Gas Chromatography And Mass Spectrometry
Introduction
With the proliferation of drugs in today s society, certain drugs are banned by sporting authorities
because of the unfair advantage they give on athletic competitors. As a result, rigid controls are put in
place to try and limit their use, since 2010 drug testing is more prevalent than ever before. The
majority of drugs that can be used by athletes can be detected in samples of urine; for some substances
blood samples may be required. An athlete is told by a drug control officer to submit a sample which
is then sent to a laboratory for analysis and the results are reported back to the governing athletic
agency. Drug testing is becoming an increasingly integral part of sports competitions. As new
performance enhancing drugs are developed, new tests are developed to detect these drugs, and the
struggle to keep sports clean continues indefinitely. Gas chromatography and mass spectrometry are
the most common methods of chemical analysis. In this report the benefits of gas chromatography will
be explored in relation to those of mass spectrometry. It can be concluded that gas chromatography is
perceived as a better drug detection method than mass spectrometry, however; they are commonly put
together as the two techniques complement each other to provide a more through form of drug testing.

Out Of This Furnace By Thomas Bell Essay
Out of this Furnace is a fictional novel by Thomas Bell which is based on true events from the 18th
century. It is a well written tale of Slovak immigrants who came to the United States in search of
better opportunities than they had in their old country. The story revolves around four main characters:
Djuro Kracha, Kracha s daughter Mary, Mary s husband, Mike Dobrejcak, and, their son Dobie. As
history tells us, many early immigrants who moved to America had either of these motives: financial
prosperity, social status and societal freedom. Similarly, as the story unfolds, we see that all of these
characters became subject to harsh conditions and that each of them went through their own version of
struggle. This novel has succeeded in enlightening us about the great effort that these Slovak
immigrants made against the issues that encountered them in America. They faced numerous
hardships in the form of underpaid and unsafe jobs, poor residence and other types of inequalities.
Kracha, like most of the immigrants, moved to America by boat in 1881 for financial growth, because
of the opportunities in his old country, Hungary, were too scarce for him to climb the financial ladder.
He had a wife back at home, who at the time was pregnant. During this time, America opened its
borders to a wave of immigrants, who were mainly inexperienced laborers. As America was stepping
into the age of industrialization, the demand for cheaper labor went up and therefore, to meet this

Teaching students with exceptional abilities requires funding, training and planning. Being in a regular
classroom with children from various cultures, ethnic backgrounds and intellectual ability help
students learn how to work together toward a common goal: reduce discrimination and stereotyping

everyone learns better can improve education as well as reduce cost. This is achieved by including
special education students in environments that will allow them to develop normal social interactions
as well as receive specific attention to their learning needs. ( What is Special Education ) Children
with disabilities need to be recognized as individuals as well as be valued for the people they will

and severity of the disability. Not all children will be served by full inclusion, some students have

It is understandable why one would prefer a quick Google search over a trip to the doctor s office. The

However there are various treatments (both conventional to mainstream medicine, and alternate

permanent damage. The most important and successful treatment is that of starting treatment with
DMARDs (disease modifying ant rheumatic drugs) that not only relieve the symptoms of RA, but also
slow down the progression of the disease itself. Anti inflammatory drugs have also proven to be
successful in managing symptoms of RA. (Eric Ruderman, 2013).. Physical and occupational therapy
as well as low impact exercise also have beneficial effects on the symptoms of RA due to them
strengthening the joint and improving mobility. For severe RA that cannot be helped by other

The Shawshank Redemption Is An American Drama Film...
The Shawshank redemption is an American drama film written and directed by Frank Darabont in the
year 1994, starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The film s screenplay has been adapted from
the Stephen King Novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank redemption and talks about the life of a man
named Andy Dufresne, a banker who is sentenced to life imprisonment in the Shawshank State prison
for murder of his wife and her lover, even despite his claims of innocence.
While the main genre of the film is drama, it fits into the sub genres of a crime and drama thriller due
to its complex narrative. The narrative is based on prison life and how Andy Dufrense who is the
protagonist, copes with this life imprisonment. Shawshank redemption places its emphasis on the
action taking place rather than the psychological meaning, which only adds to the reasoning of why
thriller is the main sub genre. The movie stars Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman as two convicts
serving time in a New England prison named Shawshank. The setting of the film is mainly of the
Shawshank prison, which is an external location and is focused on the day to day activities of the
prisoners. Tim Robbins plays the role of a man named Andy Dufresne who is the main protagonist,
while Morgan Freeman plays the role of Ellis Boyd Redding or simply Red. Supporting characters are
played by James Whitmore who is Brooks Hatlen, the librarian and one of the oldest convicts in the

Conflict Resolution Of The Workplace
Conflict in the Workplace Kara K. Martin University of South Dakota Abstract While an individual
may attempt to avoid conflict in the workplace, there is no way to actually escape it. In the workplace
environment, there are a variety of co worker relationships and challenging work situations that may
increase our emotional response. Therefore, it is important for employees to have the skills and
abilities to recognize when conflict occurs, identify the type of conflict, and to implement effective
strategies that will bring about a rapid resolution to the conflict which satisfies all stakeholders. Many
people allow themselves to become emotional which is ineffectual when conflict occurs. Other
individuals are fearful of conflict in the workplace and hope that if they bury their heads in the sand
the situation may resolve on its own without any interventions. Unfortunately, very seldom does
conflict in the workplace resolve on its own accord. In order to prevent conflict from escalating, it is
imperative for employees to take a proactive approach and implement strategies which provide a
framework for conflict resolution. Methods for conflict resolution are provided with Bernard Mayer s
Wheel of Conflict (Mayer, 2000) and Christopher Moore s Triangle of Satisfaction (Moore, 2003).
This paper will provide an analysis of a workplace conflict and demonstrate conflict resolution
utilizing each method. Keywords: conflict, framework, resolution, Triangle of Satisfaction,
