EXPANSION OF TELEVISION 1959: The first experimental telecast was launched in Delhi, with support from UNESCO, for social education purposes. 1965: A regular daily one-hour service was introduced, and a five-minute news bulletin was broadcast. 1972: The television network expanded to its second city, Mumbai, followed by stations in Srinagar, Amritsar, Calcutta, and Madras by 1975. 1975-1976: The Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE) brought television programs to 2,400 villages through a satellite lent to India for a year.
