Critical Differences – MRP vs. DDMRP No decoupling – makes everything dependent forcing longer planning horizons and variability accumulation. NOT designed to manage stock positions – it was designed to be the perfect make to order calculator – it nets to ZERO. Forecasted demand signal input guarantees constant nervousness and expedites. Priority by due date. Most conventional safety stock and reorder point positions are static (set and forget). Designed specifically to manage strategic stock positions. It NEVER nets to zero at these points. Strategically determined decoupling points to compress lead times and absorb bi-directional variability. Supply order generation tied directly to actual demand (no MPS or planned orders). DDMRP Priority by buffer status. Stock buffers are dynamically adjusted based on consumption and future known events. MRP MRP attempts to keep full safety at all costs (dead inventory and unnecessary expedites). Assumes safety will be used frequently (it is deemed normal). DDMRP Basic Training. All material and content © copyright 2020 Demand Driven Institute. All rights reserved.

DDMRP’s Proven Benefits Benefit Typical improvements Improved Customer Service Users consistently achieve 97-100% on time fill rate performance Lead Time Compression Lead time reductions in excess of 80% have been achieved in several industry segments Right-sizes Inventory Typical inventory reductions of 30-45% are achieved while improving customer service Lowest total supply chain cost Costs related to expedite activity and false signals are largely eliminated (fast freight, partial ships, cross-ships, schedule break-ins) Easy and Intuitive Planners see priorities instead of constantly fighting the conflicting messages of MRP DDMRP Basic Training.
