1.INTRODUCTION The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) in India that runs the world’s largest mid-day meal program.It was established in 2000 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, by ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) with the vision of eliminating classroom hunger and promoting education for underprivileged children.The term “Akshaya Patra” in Sanskrit means “an inexhaustible vessel of food”, inspired by the legendary pot from the Mahabharata that provided endless food.The foundation works in partnership with the Government of India and various state governments under the Mid-Day Meal Scheme .

OBJECTIVES OF AKSHAYA PATRA To eliminate classroom hunger among school children. To encourage education by providing nutritious meals. To improve school attendance, retention, and performance. To support the government’s mid-day meal program efficiently. To promote social equity by serving all children irrespective of caste, religion, or gender. To create employment opportunities through large-scale kitchen operations.

WORKING MECHANISM Procurement: Ingredients like rice, dal, vegetables, and spices are sourced locally. Cooking Meals are prepared in centralized kitchens using hygienic, automated systems. Transportation: Hot meals are transported in insulated vehicles to government and government-aided schools. Distribution: Meals are served to children during school lunch breaks by trained staff or volunteers. Feedback: Regular feedback and quality checks ensure improvement and safety.
