3. INTRODUCTION NTPC Vindhyachal is the India’s largest THERMAL POWER STATION. It is located at VINDHYACHAL, Singrauli (M.P.) It has a total installed capacity of 4760 MW. It consists of FIVE stages with 13 generating units. Stage 1 – 6 units ( 210MW each) Stage 2 – 2 units (500MW each) Stage 3 – 2 units (500MW each) Stage 4 – 2 units (500MW each) Stage 5 – 1 unit (500 MW only) Total land area 6178 acres. 7. Plough/Paddle feeders After the coal is discharged from the wagons, they get stored in RCC hoppers. Paddle or plough feeder is a mechanism used for the evacuation of coal from the bottom of RCC hoppers. As the name suggests, the feeder ploughs the accumulated coal from the bottom of the hopper and feeds it into a moving belt conveyor. 10. Boiler Drum It separates steam from water. It reduces the resultant solid content of the steam to below the prescribed limit of 1ppm. The drum is located on the upper front of the boiler. Tuesday, August 30, 2016 10

12. TURBINE In thermal power plant three turbines are are used to increase the efficiency. High pressure turbine (HPT): The superheated steam is directly fed to this turbine to rotate it. Intermediate pressure turbine (IPT): The output from the HPT is reheated in the reheater (RH) and used to rotate IPT. Low pressure turbine (LPT): The exhausted steam from the IPT is directly fed to rotate the shaft of LPT. *All the turbines are connected to a single shaft which is connected to the generator.
