Lubricants storage & handling

- Preferable for packaged lubricants to
be opened and stored under cover
- Drums should be stored bung-down
or horizontal “3 o’clock and 9 o’clock”
These products should not be stored in
open:
–Insulating Oils
–Medicinal Oils
–Refrigerator Oils
–Transformer Oils
–Greases
Storage

- New packages should be wiped clean
- Drip trays should be positioned beneath
each drum tap
- Grease guns should be filled in a clean
environment
Sampling of 210 liters drum:
–Use a drum inverter to agitate
–Essential that “thief” and container are
absolutely clean,dry and odour free
Good storekeeping

- Oil stores must be equipped with
-CO
2
-Dry chemical
-Foam type extinguishers
- Lubricants with a flash point of less
than 61°C should be stored in closed
containers away from heat in well
ventilated place
- Oil stores should be designated No
