Global scenario implication India has had no polio cases for over eleven years (since 2011) But the world is not free of polio, and although progress continues W ild poliovirus (WPV) transmission has not been interrupted in Pakistan and Afghanistan Recent isolation of WPV1 in Malawi in 2021 and in Mozambique in 2022 It shows that the importation of poliovirus is a real threat to the polio-free status of India

Rationale As per the letter MoHFW , GoI (No- Z-16026/ 02/2012- CC & V dated 05 Aug 2022 “To maintain India’s polio-free status and as per the recommendations of 30 th Meeting of India Expert Advisory Group (IEAG) on Polio in May-22, an exercise was undertaken for district risk assessment for SNID area prioritization” Four key components criteria were: Susceptibility (Immunization Component) Surveillance Polio Virus Containment Risk of the district for importation
