Vomitingandfrequentbleedingfrom
gastrointestinaltractintheformof

Severe,franktype–withflushing,suddenhigh
fever,severehemorrhage,followedbysudden
dropoftemperature,shockandterminatingin
recoveryordeath.
Moderate–withhighfever,butless
hemorrhage,noshock
Mild–withslightfever,withorwithoutpetechial
hemorrhagebutepidemiologicallyrelatedto
typicalcasesusuallydiscoveredinthecourseof
investigationoftypicalcases.

POSITIVE TORNIQUET
TEST

MostpeoplewhodevelopDHFrecover
completelywithin2weeks.Some,however,
maygothroughseveralweekstomonthsof
feelingtiredand/ordepressed.Othersdevelop
severebleedingproblems.Thiscomplication,
DHF,isaseriousillnesswhichcanleadto
shock(verylowBP)andissometimesfatal
especiallytochildrenandyoungadults.

Othercomplicationsarethe
following:
Shock
Encephalopathy
Residualbraindamage
Seizures
Liverdamage

Supportiveandsymptomatictreatmentshouldbe
provided
Forfever,giveparacetamolformusclepains.For
headache,giveanalgesic.DON’TgiveASPIRIN.
Rapidreplacementofbodyfluidsistrhemost
importanttreatment
Includesintensivemonitoringandfollow-up.
GiveORESOLtoreplacefluidasinmoderate
dehydrationat75ml/kgin4-6hoursorupto2-3Lin
adults.ContinueORSintakeuntilpatient’scondition
improves.
