Introduction to Information and
Communication Technologies
EMPOWERMENT TECHNOLOGIES

Would You rather…
Have a cellphone that has unlimited data or possess a library that
contains all the books this world has to offer?
Live with technology but you only have a short life or live without
it but with a long life?

Can you Imagine your life without technology ?, what kind of
life will it be? Please put your responses on our meeting
chatbox.

What is ICT?
The term information and communications technology (ICT)
collectively refers to the technologies, both hardware and
software, that enable humans to communicate with one another.

Goal of ict
To have a unified way of communication.

❑Pre-mechanical Period
❑Mechanical Period
❑Electromechanical Period
❑Electronic Period

PRE-MECHANICAL PERIOD
(3000 BCE-1450 CE)
The objective of people during this time was mainly to store
information

1. STONE TABLETS 2. PAPYRUS PAPER
INVENTED THINGS DURING PRE-MECHANICAL PERIOD

2. PAPYRUS PAPER
INVENTED THINGS DURING PRE-MECHANICAL PERIOD
A writing material created by ancient Egyptians
and was used in trading during this period

1. STONE TABLETS 2. PAPYRUS PAPER 3. BOOKS

4. LIBRARIES 5. ABACUS
INVENTED THINGS DURING PRE-MECHANICAL PERIOD

5. ABACUS
INVENTED THINGS DURING PRE-MECHANICAL PERIOD
One of the instrument that is used in this
period to perform basic operations and
counting. It was traced in old civilizations of
Babylonians, Ancient Chinese, Japanese and
Russians.

❖During this time, the interest in
automating and speeding numerical
calculations grew.
MECHANICAL PERIOD
(1450 BCE-1840 BCE)

❖This machine was created by the
French scientist “Blaise Pascal” and
is considered as the first mechanical
calculator in the world.

It was a proposed mechanical general
purpose computer designed by English
mathematician and the “Father of
Computers” Charles Babbage.

The highlight of this period is mostly on
how people used electricity to transmit
converted electrical impulses to be
knowledge and information
ELECTROMECHANICAL PERIOD
(1840 CE-1940 CE)

1. TELEPHONE 2. RADIO 3. TELEGRAPH
INKER MACHINE
INVENTED THINGS DURING
ELECTROMECHANICAL PERIOD

❖The highlight of this period is focused
on the advent of solid state and
electronic devices.
Four main events found in this period:
1.Vacuum Tubes
2.Transistors
3.Integrated Circuits
4.Computer Processors
ELECTRONIC PERIOD
(1940 BCE -PRESENT)

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
The branch of computer science focused with
making computers work and act like humans

COMPUTER ASSISTED
INSTRUCTION (CAI)
The use of computers to
assist in the translation of
one or more natural
languages into another or
other, and vice versa.

3D IMAGING AND HOLOGRAPHY
A photography that uses light to project objects in a way that
appears three-dimensional.

VIRTUAL REALITY
The term used to describe a three-dimensional, computer-
generated environment that can be explored and interacted with
by a person.

It is defined as any device with internet capability that is
accessible from anywhere the user is. The devices in this
category includes smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
