Understanding Physical Disability

What is a Physical Disability?
Definition:
A physical disability is a limitation on a person's physical
functioning, mobility, dexterity, or stamina.•Examples:•Mobility impairments (e.g., paralysis, limb loss)•Neurological impairments (e.g., cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis)•Chronic conditions (e.g., arthritis, muscular dystrophy)

Causes of Physical Disabilities
Congenital (e.g., spina bifida, genetic disorders)
Acquired (e.g., accidents, infections, aging)
Neurological conditions (e.g., stroke, spinal cord injuries)

Activity 1 -Accessibility
vDivide participants into small groups.vAssign each group an area (e.g., classroom,
restroom, entrance,).vUse a checklist to evaluate accessibility features
(ramps, signage, etc.).
vShare findings and discuss solutions for improvement.

Activity 2 -Empathy Exercise
1.Participants simulate physical disabilities (e.g.,
navigating a space in a wheelchair, writing with limited
dexterity).
2.Reflect on the experience through guided questions:•What challenges did you face?•How can we address these challenges?
(sharing)

.

Key Takeaways
•Physical disabilities vary widely but share common
challenges.
•Accessibility and inclusion are critical to empowering
individuals.
•Simple changes can create a more inclusive
environment for everyone.

.Closing and Q&A

Thank You

exists; it is making a new space, a better space for
