Description 10% Dextrose/25 grams in 250 mL 10% Dextrose Infusion is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, hypertonic solution. It contains no antimicrobial or buffering agents.
INFORMATION ON 10% DEXTROSE USED AS INTRAVENOUS INFUSION Contraindications - None known Warnings - 10% Dextrose Infusion is intended for intravenous administration only . It should not be administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly. Excessive administration of dextrose infusion may result in significant hypokalemia.
INFORMATION ON 10% DEXTROSE INFUSION Dosage and Administration ADULT DOSAGE Hang a 250 mL bag of 10% dextrose, and begin infusion of 125cc or until patient regains consciousness and/or a Glasgow Coma Score of 15. A second infusion of 125cc might be needed if pt does not achieve a Glascow Coma Score of 15 Clamp tubing between infusions, and reassess for improvements in mental status. Re-check the fingerstick glucose. Insulin dependent diabetics can be released on scene once they have achieved a blood sugar of 60 or greater.

INFORMATION ON 10% DEXTROSE INFUSION D-10 is more isotonic and less likely to cause harm to the patient if extravasation occurs. It is just as fast at reversing the effects of hypoglycemia as D-50, costs less, and is less likely to lead to hyperglycemia and glucosuria (spilling of glucose into the urine) with its associated diuresis and dehydrating effects . -Dr. Youngquist
