E-Waste Management
1. E-waste is defined as the unwanted, damaged unusable
electrical & electronic appliances.
2. It may be further classified as commodity & waste.
3. Recyclable E-waste is termed as commodity.
4. Those E-waste which can not be reused or recycled are the
waste which causes toxic substances.
5. The toxic substance caused by the waste electronic products are
found to be non-biodegradable.
Origin of E-waste
1.Electronic consumables with short life span are the origin of E-waste.
2.Increased demand of electronic consumables.
3.More advancement of gadget leads to the dump of old electronic
consumables.
4.Cheap quality of products leads to E-waste dump.
5.Desire for new consumables also leads to outdating of old products
leading to E-waste dump.
Effects of E-waste
1.E-waste can prove to be deadly if not treated properly.
2.They contain carcinogens which are toxic & hazardous to health.
3.Care should be taken to dispose worn out electronic consumables.
4.If the carcinogens enter to the environment they destroy the air, soil &
underground water.
5.Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are the toxins
present in bulk.
6.In addition elements like Lead, tin, copper, silicon, beryllium, carbon, iron
and aluminum are also present.
Few facts about E-waste
1.Due to lack of work environment E-waste are illegally transferred to
places where it is not disposed properly.
2.Guiyu in Shantou region of China are two of such places.
3.In India its Delhi & Bangalore where E-waste are dumped.
4.It is expected that by 2017 the E-waste in India will almost increase by
30%.
5.In many places land filling is done which causes soil to lose its fertility
& become barren lands.
What can be done??
1.The word is RECYCLE.
2.Recycling of electronic consumables should be done on large scale.
3.Increase in life span of products.
4.Compatibility of products with the latest updates.
5.Proper usage of consumables for better efficiency.

2.Industries now buy back the old products & exchange new products
for those.
3.Better efficiency of products & their operations need to be monitored.
4.Proper disposal methods of E-waste.
5.In initializing more recycle plants.
What can we do????
1.We can use the recycle bin placed at many malls to dispose our
electronic consumables.
2.We can also replace the gadget for a replacement scheme.
3.Know the product performance to the better usage of it.
4.Rather than discarding the product we can upgrade it.
5.Try using recyclable or reusable consumables.
