1. JULY 9th Feast of the Assumption of the blessed Virgin Mary A peculiar sign of devotion always alive in the people of Cassino takes place on July 9th. The Mother of Christ is carried through the streets of the town to visit all Her believers, to ensure Her continue presence and Her maternal protection. According to ancient traditions the citizens of Cassino commemorate especially Her intervention in 1837, when a terrible plague was raging in town and killing very many people. On July 9th of that year they resorted with great faith to Our Lady of the Assumption. They carried the statue in procession to the chapel of the Crucifix on the way to Montecassino. Our Lady replied to the faith of Her followers : the plague ceased.

2. The great traditional penitential procession, which was carried out on July 9th, since 1991 has been transformed into a characteristic "pilgrimage" of the statue in the parishes of Cassino centre. This "pilgrimage" has a great advantage for the pastoral community life, as a full day the holy statue of the Assumption stops in each parish , whose presence stimulates even more devotion, remembrance, thanksgiving and especially prayer.

3. Coronation of Our Lad y of the Assumption AUGUST 14th The solemn coronation of Our Lady of the Assumption into Heaven, which is celebrated every year on August 14th, is an ancient and heart-warming ceremony, according to a pious tradition established as a permanent reminder of Her continuous and effective protection over the centuries. Those who have not yet participated will never be able to imagine the joy and commotion that one feels when the Abbot puts the crown on the head of the Precious Queen and Mother of Cassino.

4. The tradition wants that the encounter of the statue of the Child Jesus with His Mother takes place in Via del Foro, a meeting that marked another greatest grace for all the faithful. About this "meeting" has always been said that when it had not yet been established this ritual of the Coronation, the town was being tormented by a terrible calamity. Therefore the abbot decided to implore Our Lady's help, by having Her statue met with a statue of the Child Jesus. At the time when the meeting took place, the plague stopped again, and it was established that in the place of the "meeting'' it would happen every year the solemn coronation.

5. The feast of the Assumption of the blessed Virgin Mary AUGUST 15th In Her Church, our Cathedral, Our Lady adorned with a lot of gold presents, welcomes Her children and accompanies them to the altar, where priests dispense them the Food of the Word and the Eucharistic Bread, that Her Son gave to the world. All enjoy this feast, beautiful in the Church and in all its rites. Everything contributes to live in peaceful happiness this day: the solemn religious services, the solemn Holy Mass presided by the Father Abbot of the Diocese, dom Pietro Vittorelli, the procession at night and all the public ceremonies, including wonderful fireworks.
