Significance of Global Health Initiatives

In 2000, The United Nations Millennium Declaration, establishing a global partnership of countries and development partners committed to achieve the eight (8) voluntary development goals.

World Health Organization Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) This is the frst treatu of WHO This is an evidence-based treaty that realfirms the right of all people to the highest standard of health This represents a paradigm shift in developing a regulatory strategy to address addictive substances.
This is a landmark for the future of global public health and has major implications for WHO's health goals. It promotes public health and provides new legal dimensions for internatonal health cooperation
The WHO FCTC was develop in response to the globalization of the tobacco epidemic. This epidemic was facilitated through a variety of complex factors wth cross- border effects including trade liberalization and direct foreign investment

D. Global Strategy to reduce the Harmful Use of Alcohol Alcohol - is a substance known for its serious side effect. - it can affect a persons judgement and consciousness that may lead to crimes and accidents. - it can cause excessive sleepiness when consumed too much
The Harmful use of alcohol is a serious health burden as it affects all individuals. Health problems from alcohol abuse arise in acute and chronic conditions, and advers social consequences . This is a global problem, therefore,needs to be addressed worldwide. This global strategy is the first global effort to reduce health threat such as harmful consequences of alcohol use.
E. The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) - is a global health partnership of public and privates sectors dedicated to immunize every child - diseases that affect mostly children and adults such as: measles, hepatitis and influenza - the GAVI mission is to saving childrens lives and protecting peoples health by increasing access to immunization in poor countries. - almost 370 million children immunized -targets an additional 300 million children as beneficiaries.
