What is communication model? It is a pictorial representation of the communication process, ideas, thoughts, or concepts through diagrams, etc.

MODELS OF COMUNICATION

1. Aristotle’s model of communication Aristotle, a great philosopher initiated the earliest mass communication model called “ Aristotle’s Model of Communication”. He proposed a model before 300 BC that found the importance of audience’s role in the communication chain in his communication model. This model is more focused on public speaking than interpersonal communication.

- A setting dictates the message. 3 Settings in Aristotle’s time 1. Legal - meant the courts where ordinary people defended themselves. 2. Deliberative - meant the political assemblies, the highest of each was the Roman senate. 3. Ceremonial - meant the celebrations held when they won a war, lost a leader or had a new one, welcome visiting leader from another kingdom or country.

2. Shannon-weaver model This model is also called “ telephone model” a well-known and influential formal model of communication developed in 1949 by Claude Shannon and Warren Weaver. He introduced the concept of “noise” It depicts communication as a linear or one-way communication process.

3. Barnlund’ Transaction model of communication It is a two-way communication process with the inclusion of feedback as one element. “Communicators” and their role reverse each time in the communication process as both processes of sending and receiving occurs at the same time.
