Ethics and research
Ethical action in research arises from rich, context-sensitive
deliberation at the intersection of practical wisdom,
theoretical understanding and principled reasoning … Ethical
codes and guidelines may offer further resources for ethical
deliberation, as well as providing the procedural framework
for institutional sanctioning of researcher’s chosen courses of
action and actual conduct. For individual researchers, it is
important not just to achieve technical compliance (ethical
‘approval’ or ‘clearance’) … but also to develop their personal
understanding of ethical principles and contexts, their
commitment to ethical research, and the ability to act wisely
in ethically complex situations.
