Gray Weevil, Myllocerus subfasciatus Guerin Myllocerus subfasciatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) has been reported from Tamil Nadu (Nair 1975). Both larvae and adults cause damage. Adult feeding leaves notches on leaf margins, while larvae make small feeding holes in young tubers (Chandla 1985). IN TRODUCTION
Distribution: Throughout India. Host range: Pearl millet, maize, sorghum.
Bionomics Myllocerus viridanus: Adult weevil with greenish white elytra Myllocerus discolor: Adult weevil is brown in color with white spot on the elytra. Grub is small, white apodous and found feeding on roots. Weevil appears during summer and lays ovoid, light yellow eggs in the soil Myllocerus subfasciatus: The adult weevil is light grayish to white with four black spots on the wing covers. The eggs are light yellow and laid deep in the soil. The grubs are fleshy, yellow-colored. Pupation occurs in earthen cells in the soil. The egg, larva, and pupal periods last for about 3–11, 3–42, and 5–7 days, respectively.
Damage symptoms Leaf margins are notched resulting in wilting of plants in patches. Roots are eaten away by grubs and as a result plants come off easily when pulled. Adults feed on the leaves.
